Hey Framers,

I am new here and have a very basic question. How does this forum define picture framing (what framers do)? I have a business where I print and mount prints, but I seldom put a frame around them. My biggest sellers are Box mount and Gallery wrap elite. When I do use frames, I do not use mat windows and glass. I sometimes mount customer's prints but usually print and mount their digital photos.

Am I welcome here?

Welcome.

I think you will be OK around here your DNA seems to be of the right type.

Unless you spit...Llamas have a tendancy to do so...

Welcome! and please feel free to share your expertise, just don't spit.

Welcome to the grumble!

You won’t find one set definition of what picture framing is because it encompasses so many things.

However, most of us that consider ourselves framers probably have the ability to provide our customers with the basic components of framing (frame moulding, matting, glass, mounting ect). But there are many on this forum (photographers, artists, printers, galleries) who don’t operate a custom frame shop. We all try and learn from each other.

You have NINE llamas? How cool is that? Welcome to the Grumble and if you wanna, you can mosey over to Warped and post some photos of the critters. We all loves our critters.

The term "framing" is used in so many contexts, today, that it may help to think of it as preparation for display, rather than some more restrictive definition that might include molding, matting, and glazing.

There are more than a few of us here that are not picture framers.

Some were, some will be and some don't wanna be.

If you're interested enough to register and participate, you're welcome.

So what is the difference between a one-L lama, a two-L llama and a three-L lama?

A one-L lama is a priest.

A two-L llama is a beast.

And a three-L lama is a BIG FIRE!!!

(only llama joke I know)
