I am curious how many (or if any) of our "G" family won any of the tools and equipment that was given away at the Atlanta show?

Did any of you come back with a new nifty piece of equipment from the frame shop setup?

What were you wishing you would win, FGII? I wish our owners would have won the CTD 12 inch saw (we have the 10 inch), but they didn't win anything, nor were they overly impressed with the shop.

That's just a hazzard of being in business a long time, it takes a lot to impress you.

The shop was a nice idea. I enjoyed looking at it. The give away was not the best organized. Many people did not read the rules on the entry form. I read that you had to pick up your prize or arrange for shipping by 4 PM on Sunday. What happened to the unclaimed prizes? I would have been happy to win any of them. After the final drawing on Sunday Vivian handed out shop aprons to those people standing around watching the drawing for the big stuff. So I did not go away empty handed.

Not impressed? That was quite an impressive array of machinery by any frame shop standards.

But maybe most impressive, that shop was entirely assembled in a two day period. Bob Mayfield, Vivian Kistler, and others who contributed their time and energy deserve congratulations for a difficult job well done. All of the framing produced there was donated to a charity (can't recall which one at the moment, though).

Framers benefitted from its use as an educational tool, as well.

If they do it again, I hope they are given more space so they could show a properly set up frame shop. I would never put a saw next to a fitting table.

This was the first year for DECOR'S Showcase Frame Shop & Gallery and we are early on the learning curve. I managed the frame shop section. It was put together in a very short time. The Ultimate Frame Shop name was an early one which was changed to DECOR'S Showcase Frame Shop & Gallery. Unfortunately some marketing got out with the old name. Picking merchandise and equipment for the ultimate shop would be a hard job by itself but try to keep 700 vendors happy at the same time. An impossible job so the name was changed to Showcase Frame Shop & Gallery.

All the equipment, tools, supplies, and art were donated. During the show we framed a boatload of stuff for Habitat for Humanity with the help of many volunteer framers.

The workshop area was only 630 square feet (21 x 30) with only one wall. We wanted to layout the shop so everything could be seen from the perimeter and this lead to some far from ideal placements. The saw next to the dry mount press and the fitting tables would not be my first choice but there was no way around that.

As Jim mentioned the complete shop was set up in two days. Yes, we had some glitches but overall it ran very well. I only had one cut and didn't bleed on any of the art, a good three days in any frame shop. There will be an article in a future issue of DECOR about the Showcase Frame Shop & Gallery.

Plans are underway to do it again next year in Atlanta with a better location, more space, an educational component and another charity that will benefit.

Jo,

It didn't matter to me what I won, I was just afraid that somebody would post on this thread that I had won a CMC or something really neat and I wasn't there at the drawing to claim it!!

I look forward to the next Showcase Gallery/Frame Shop. It should be alot of fun after they get the interior of their "shop" straightened out.

The name of the shop is the reason they weren't impressed. They expected to see some wonderful "ultimate" equipment that we didn't already have that would make coffee for you and take out the trash too ;) .

"Showcase Frame Shop & Gallery" implies a different meaning. Thanks for the explaination Bob Mayfield. I will pass the info on.
