Excellent deal!!

But I thought you don't like Kaspersky anymore and were looking for alternatives?

I am testing Avast free version on one PC and so far it seems to be good and well behaved with applications (no more disabling Kaspersky while doing Lifesaver price or system updates).

And, Kaspersky had this annoying habit of thinking it has expired and needs to run and find the registration number to reactivate it! System date and time were accurate.....:popc:

Well I had a (slowdown) problem with the 2010 version back in September 2009, and was angry at the company. :) This was due to a bug in one of their software updates. It has been very good since they addressed the issue. I feel very safe with this product, and it does a good job. When ours ran out a month ago, we simultaneously tried demos from the full featured (paid) versions of Avast and Nod32. (on different pc's) We also tried MSE. We have 17 pc's that expired at the same time, between the shop, home, and sister business. While all three of them did the job just fine, I kind of miss some of the features in Kaspersky. So, we're going back for another year! :)

The 2011 version comes out this month, and is a free update. But I won't be touching it for a few months, until any potential rough edges get worked out. This is why I had problems last year. For now, the 2010 version will be fine.

You didn't have to disable it to run LifeSaver program updates. If you did the steps in the tips, it's a one time "set it and forget it" process.

I did actually and was getting locked files crashes (during daily price updates, not just the system updates).

LS tech support suggested I disable Kaspersky nevertheless.

Maybe the TrueVue branded version is different?? (And no, I am not bashing TV...:p)

Nah, the exclusion was just not applied properly. Sometimes it is finicky about the trailing slash \ on the filepath, etc.

If you still have it installed on any pc's, I'd be glad to dial in and set that for ya.

Mike

Thanks Mike, ordered 2 of the 3 user license copies. I have 2 computers that have recently had it expire and several more about to expire in the next couple of months.

Do you know if each license period begins with the individual install versus all 3 beginning with the first installation.

They share a common serial #, and will all expire 12 months from the activation of the first one. (it calls home to check this, when you do updates)

It'll technically allow 4.

Mike

I thought that might be the case since some of mine from previous purchase seemed like they expired early based on the individual install dates.

I got a better deal - Microsoft Security Essentials - absolutely free. I dumped my "defender" program and installed MSE. I use it on 6 of our PC's. When Microsoft announced the software, MacAfee's stock dropped in value.

IMO: MSE is a lot better than AVG Free, but still wont touch most of the commercial programs. It's biggest flaw is that it doesn't scan your incoming emails, which are the source of many (most?) problems. The a/v database only gets updated once every 24 hours, while most of the commercial ones get hourly updates. MSE (just like AVG Free) is licensed for residential use only, but is not supposed to be used in a business.

I have MSE on one of our personal laptops, which doesn't have email. It has been fine for that, and has a small footprint. (very little slowdown)

Note: As of this writing, the deal is still working! It looks like they're blowing out the 2010 boxed version, preparing for the 2011 one. The 2011 version will be a free update on the website, so its not a big deal. I suggest waiting a while, to make sure it's stable. For now, the 2010 version works well.

Thanks for the info. My Kasperski's one year renewal is due in 4-6 months and this is the lowest price i have ever seen. I found a great deal on it a few years ago when i started using it. I paid about $40.OO for it (excellent price compared to BestBuy (about $70.00!!) Ever since, i have been searching for deals at lease 4 months ahead of time. (The best deal i ever found was about $24.00, but that was AFTER a big rebate. I HATE REBATES!!!)

If you already have Kasperski installed, and your one year renewal i even several months away, purchase it NOW at this deal. It will not expire if you don't use it when you get it. (I have three computers and ordered TWO CDs.!) Simply change the registration key when it tell you.

Thanks.

When updating K should I do a full install or just enter the serial number. I have some computers running '09 and others running 2010.

The serial # should work just fine, with either version. I would suggest uninstalling the 2009, rebooting, then putting the current (2010) in.

Remember, the "clock" starts when you use that new serial # for the first time - so wait until a machine has expired. It will be from that day forward, not including any remaining time associated with the old serial #.

I just bought my copy. Been having a lot of issues with viruses and svchost.exe issues. I have used Avast free but it stopped catching the bugs before they got in my machine. I used AVG 9 but it is very NOT user friendly. Took forever to uninstall.

Currently using Super Antispyware got it for nine dollars. Works good when you scan but doesn't seem to catch them entering your system.

Mike,

They are blowing this out because I bought it 2 days earlier for $24.

Just like Toyota lowering their interest rate 3 weeks after I bought mine.

When it comes time to buy something wait about a week after I buy it and you will make out fine.

Ours came today, and I just finished removing Microsoft Security Essentials and some other programs from 8 machines, and (re)installing Kaspersky Antivirus. I feel safe again, and just have to add the exceptions for our POS. In case anyone needs those steps, i'll re-post them here.

Adjusting Kaspersky Anti-Virus to work with LifeSaver
Are you using Kaspersky Antivirus? The LifeSaver update routine can sometimes trigger a false alarm, which prevents a full update from happening. Until the vendors work this out, here is a solution which requires 2 small setting changes:

-Right click the red K(aspersky) logo, down in the system tray (near the clock), and click SETTINGS
-Under OPTIONS, Click THREATS and EXCLUSIONS
-For 2010 version, click EXCLUSIONS SETTINGS. (note: For 2009 version, → Click TRUSTED ZONE)

Change 1:
-Click the EXCLUSION RULES tab
-Click +ADD
-Click SELECT OBJECT (link)
-In the OBJECT NAME dialogue, browse or type C:\LIFESAVER\ and click OK

Change 2: (from the same area)
-Click the TRUSTED APPLICATIONS tab (within Threats and Exclusions menu)
-Click +ADD
-Click BROWSE and find c:\lifesaver\LifeSaver.exe, then click OPEN
-In the "Exclusions for application" window that follows, check all 4 boxes and click OK

These one time changes should eliminate any Kaspersky issues. Although a bit paranoid about security, it
really does do a good job.

Thanks for looking out Mike.

Now I am shopping for a fat screen tv.

What are the chances their prices will bottom out just after I buy one.
