Another mat designed by Sarah for the collection of specialty mats on David Goines' art hanging above our Wizard. We use these as examples of what the CMC, and more importantly, our talented staff can do.

The color is a bit brighter here than in the actual piece. There is a full size image here on our site:

That is really cool, Kirstie, and perfectly doable without a CMC!

Just for the heck of it, how much would a shop have to charge for a mat like that? Ballpark. :icon19:

We priced the whole item at $600. but that includes the price of the poster. David's posters sell out fast. I suppose we would charge the price of the mats plus $60. per hour design time. I doubt we will ever sell one, but we may sell the framed poster. We have a space above the Wizard that is hard to reach and we have it hung with elaborate examples of what we can do. People love to walk over and admire these, and as we rarely sell them, we don't have to get out ladders to get them off the wall. We also always use moulding and mats that we have in-house. The Roma moulding was a stick that had been hanging around for a while, and it was just waiting for this piece.

BTW, Sarah always cuts test mats for these designs from flaw board or other leftovers first.

Love that slightly retro wood and earth-tone look you've developed for much of the work I see on your web site.

Is that a regionally popular style? And do you get many customers coming to you specifically for that style?

There are a lot of Craftsman style small bungalow houses in this area--expensive ones that have been completely remodeled-- so the arts and crafts style is big. David Goines is local, Yoshiko Yamamoto is West Coast and used to live in Berkeley. There are other local artists I would carry if they did not already have local representation.

Distressed woods are big. Ebonized walnut is very popular.

But my biggest seller? No surprise--poster black 1.25" wood.

Sarah's fabric wrapping has become absolutely amazing. :D

Her designs are fab as usual.

IF you ever lose her, you might as well close down the CMC.... LOL :help:

Wow, I like that! Great how the tan element goes under the cross bars of the open groove, but overlaps the green mat at other points. Almost "Escheresque".
When I first opened in 1977 I used to sell posters by David Lance Goines that he designed for Chez Panisse. They were beautiful. After a while we couldn't get them anymore for some reason.
