Ok, So we all heard this remark, "That [spot/damage/wrinkle/crease/blemish etc] wasn't there when I dropped this off"...
So to mitigate this we have a damage report that our designers fill out when placing the order and have the customer sign it. We are going to adopt Virtual Framer where you take a picture of the artwork it's time-stamped for further proof of existing condition. However, what if a digital print (ink-based print on paper that sheds ink from the surface after being in the shop---it happens when dust is on the print before printing and only sheds later) shows flaws after the damage report is clean? Also, what do you all do in terms of disclaimers to damaged artwork by staff? Do you make reasonable efforts to fix the art with conservators? Do you pay for the artwork to be replace or fixed? Do you give them a discount on framing? Honestly, the most trouble I have had running a frame shop is the gray areas of artwork that seems to either have been damaged prior to us receiving it or the lack of noting the previous damage. And if we honestly damage artwork, how do you all deal with it? thanks in advance. Grumble Grumble Grumble....
