I just got a dozen sheets of OP-3 today, and framed 9 projects with no problems,
then cut three pieces of OP-3 in a row for one particular project (which of course has a
white top mat) and each one of the three has a black spec IN THE MAT AREA!
ARGHHH! I went to Cyro's website to see if there was a specification for number of
specks allowed, and stumbled across this rebate program that may be of interest to
some of you.

Anyone have a solution for the specks? Once the paper is off the OP-3 I've found it
hardly worth the time involved to cut it down and then try to clean all the little particulate
matter off again.

Thanks,

The black specks in the acrylic are carbon spots and constitute flawed material. If you are buying picture framing quality material, you supplier should replace these sheets or sizes for you at no charge. The distributor can get credit, just return the flawed product. I have never asked anyone to live with any black specks

Good Luck

Scott,

Lois is right. CYRO is sensitive to the need for flawless material when framing a picture. To this end, we have started promoting our standard picture framing acrylic, ACRYLITE(R) FF-3 acrylic sheet and family of framing products as defect free or material is replaced no questions asked.

I realize once it is in the frame, this is less comforting, but we are committed to making good material for the picture framing market.

Sometimes, small black specs will be in spec, but it sounds like the extent to which you had it would be unacceptable for even our specifications.

Did you ask your distributor about a refund or replacement for future projects? I await your rebate request!

Courtney,

I did call our area rep, and he gave me the "speck spec", and said if the number of specks exceeds this, (especially if there are cluster specks) to cut out the specks and give them to our distributor, who should replace the sheets. The particular piece I was framing required a piece of OP-3 roughly 40 x 24, and one speck in that size piece is not out of spec, however, when it sits right on top of a white mat, it is totally intolerable! I am waiting to finish the rest of this batch before I ask for replacement. I don't think we have had any problems in the pieces after the first three, so either we are cutting around them coincidentally, or the bulk of the problem was in those few sheets. I hope it's the latter!

Thanks,
