Are there any tips for cutting a mat from a file made in Adobe Illustrator? A (former staff member) customer designed his own mat. Illustrator will export DXF (and some other CAD related files formats) and so he exported a DXF file.

Wizard's Pathtrace software will import DXF files and I've attempted a few times to get this to work, but have had no success much past getting the DXF file on-screen. It's been a number of months since my last attempt and I can't remember it failed exactly.

Anyone ever done this successfully?

Thanks,
Andrew

PathTrace is set up to allow the import of DXFs. However, since DXFs have not yet been truly standardized in the software industry, there are a large number of varieties. Each program that supports DXFs has their own set of standards and defaults, so you may have to experiment with the different settings and export selections to see what works best for you. Try ungrouping all objects and converting to curves, unit =inches, export text as curves, bitmap as jpeg.

The PathTrace can be located by Clicking Help on the menu bar. This manual will show you how to edit objects and trace it to cut on your CMC.

Depending upon the complexity of the design and how the DXF imports, sometimes it is easier to load an image and draw over that.

BTTT. Thanks for posting this question as I'd love to know the answer as well.
