Hi there,

I framed a painting for a client last year using a moulding from Larson's Prado line, #608745. She recently dropped off some more stuff and was wondering if I could "brighten" the finish. She loves the frame but she just feels the gold finish is a little too dark.

Larson didn't have any recommendations. I was thinking of blotting a brighter version of the gold with a chunky dry brush but I'm not sure what the best materials to use would be.

Anyone handy with this sort of thing?

Thanks!

rub -n- buff

I've had good results with using different rub & buff mixed to the right color, thinned with paint thinner & applied with a brush. Of course experiment & make more than you'll need...hard to match the color!

love Guilders paster!

Perhaps Larson Juhl will give you a few inches of scrap of that moulding to test out your guilders paste or rub n buff. I'm lucky that I'm only a few minutes away from the distribution center, but last time I was there, they gave me some small end pieces and little triangles from the waste bin to practice my technique.

I'm not familar with the guilders paste, but I am familar with Rub n Buff and would recommend to anyone to have this stuff around in all the metalic colors for touch ups and alterations.

On a separate note, want to make a frame glossy use plastic scratch remover on it.

Want to darken a gold or silver frame use black shoe polish and wipe off excess.
