Is it just me ....

Usually as soon as I call customers and let them know their work is ready they come in within a day or two to pick it up.

The last few weeks I can't seem to get folks to come get their work and some have been called two or three times. I've never had this problem on a mass scale before.

I'm beginning to think it may have something to do with the looming April 15th tax deadline.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Yes Dave, I had to wait weeks for many.

But funny thing, last Saturday almost all came at the same time (9 pickups within 2 hours)!!

Except for those 2 customers who moved out of town and left their stuff (and a hefty balance) here.......

I just had a customer come pick up a picture today that I framed for him in November, and he paid in advance!

The only time of year this usually happenes to us is a week or two before the tax dead line. Just something we have 'learned' to expect over the years. This year hasn't been too much of a problem though.

This year we get an extra 2 days. Tax day is the 17th.

I just had a customer that called 3 times to see if his work was done. We always call when it is done and he knew that but was "just checking" We got his work completed, called him and he took 2 weeks to come in and get it. Go figure.

This has been the case here as well. But it has also been a bit pokey for them coming in to begin with!! But the ones coming in are bigger projects - so that is good.

Happy April!

I do all three of the above.

About 80% of the time I get deposits and quite often they pay for the full amount.

The other 20% I don't ask for deposits because these are customers that either almost always have some work in house or I've established a relationship with them which requires billing. With most of the accounts which require invoicing I send the invoice when the work is finished and they bring a check when they pick up the work. I generally carry little if any receivables except with commercial accounts that buy cartons of fom-board or other such products and I make those invoices payable on receipt and generally see payment within about 10 days.

I know it goes against all "good business" sense, but I actually prefer a 50% deposit instead of full payment ahead of time. I guess I'm just from the Pavlovian School of Incentive Motivation.

I've got a piece here framed over a year ago that was paid in full before the job started. The client knows its done, lives in the area and won't pick it up for some reason.

I totally agree!

I like knowing I have something to look forward to! I also don't spend as wisely as I should when I get it all up front. Cash flow is always my biggest stress!

...Cash flow is always my biggest stress!

Cash flow is never a problem for me ...it flows in and then it flows out! Once in a while my feet get wet, but never often enough.
