I have a customer whose husband is going to be retiring from a 25 year career of truck driving. She wants to frame a set of patches from his uniform and include a brass plate, similar to the attached jpg, celebrating his retirement any idea where I can go to get something like this produced?

Thanks

Local trophy or print shop. A 1" by 3" brass plaque with corner knock outs cost ~$4 and was done within the week. I have them put a strip of adhesive on the back to adhere it to the matboard. Local charity does an annual give away and I use the same shop each year.

I'd call and ask them! I don't work there :)

I've seen them do starburst circles around the lettering I would assume if you can draw it they can cut it! Be like us with our CMC's (which I don't have!)
They might want the pdf. Might be cheaper for you if you provide the artwork. Ask them! ;)

Bob,
Thanks for the tip. I'll check with a couple. I just wasn't sure what their software capabilities were. I'll check with a couple of local shops and see.

I know on another thread folks with CMCs were talking about cutting magnets and other stuff, vinyl banners et al, so their CMC software must have a lot of the capabilities ours do, with the benefit of being able to cut straight up and down! I remember folks who were trying to custom cut fonts were having trouble getting the bevels to line up properly. But that was last year and software improves so fast!

Good luck with the truck. I know the shop I have used asked if I want the inside black, like our color cored mats, so I bet your options are fairly limitless.

But what do I know, I work with paper not brass!

Trophy shops can cut logos, etc. in plates, both plastic and metal, so I don't see why they couldn't do what you want. I'm sure there is one in Georgia, but if not I know of one here.

Most of the up to date trophy shops use a laser engraver and software that will duplicate almost anything that has contrast to it and can be either scanned, photographed, or otherwise set to a flat dimension .

I had a good friend who did this work back in IL and he literally took a photo of my art gallery and laser engraved it onto a black core brass piece of plastic! The engraving turned out to look better than the photo!!

I have always had my plates done at the local trophy shop. They are always doing this sort of thing for plaques, trophies, and presentations and can get your work done as easily as cutting a mat on a CMC!

Thanks guys,
I know where the local trophy shops are, just wasn't thinking clearly enough about where to go.

Thanks for stirring the mud up there....

I also use a local trophy shop for this sort of thing. They use Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw. I generally design my own image and save it in Adobe Illustrator format and give them the disc. I have always been very pleased with the results. Good luck.
