Okay, I made that topic way too complicated.

Number One: A client came in with a caricature of his son and nephew, and wanted it framed as simply as possible. I suggested we give the mat a custom opening, and he was really keen on that idea. So this is just a simple 'round the edge of the image.

Number Two: A client brought this heraldry crest in for his parents, who are very traditional in their framing, but he wanted something to spice it up just a tad.

#1 - After seeing that mat treatment, I couldn't imagine anything else that would have worked so well. The chracters are drawn outside their border so it was just begging for a similar treatment. I like that you didn't trace it exact but only made the suggestion.

Wow! Both look great! Subtle and effective.

The "round outs" of the caricature give it even more life and more fun. And I love the extensions of the diagonal lines of the crest carried into the bottom mat. Very classy look.

Both will be treasured by the families for generations, I'm sure.
