MGF, Master Grumble Framer
Same customer who ordered the antique calendar.
Originally she wanted to do something really simple on this one: single mat, museum glass, owner's frame. When she picked it up, she decided she really needed some sort of embellishment on the mat, some sort of flourish. I asked for some time to figure out what could be done, and she agreed.
After studying the frame, I came up with a simple flourish for the space between the columns:
After the customer approved the design, I traced it onto the mat (using an Ebony pencil, measuring where it was going to go, taping it down with 811, tracing with a hard lead) and inked it with Copic sepia, then coloured it with Prismacolor Metallic Gold, Cream and Burnt Umber.
This was my first hand-done mat flourish, and really wasn't all that hard to do--it was quite fun, actually.
