Thought I'd share a couple of frames that I completed for display in my studio that includes fabric wrapping, stacked mouldings/fillets, and museum glass. I did the frame for the cowboy & mustangs painting in the spring; the peonies was just completed yesterday.

The cowboy painting:
  • Stacked a 3/4" weathered walnut Fotiou moulding around the wider, 2 1/4" weathered black wood Fotiou moulding - it's hard to see the stacking in the photo, but the 3/4" moulding is along the same colour as the backing board fabric.
  • Wrapped the scooped liner (FE-X) with Durango Walnut fabric
  • The backing board (a piece of 4-ply artcare mat glued to a piece of coroplast) is covered in Sedona Cowhide fabric.
  • There is a piece of museum glass between the liner and the frame, providing plenty of space between the glass and the canvas.
  • The reason for float mounting the painting was the artist continued the painting along the edges of the canvas and I wanted to show that as well.

The peonies mixed-medium artwork:
  • Stacked a Fotiou fillet inside the lip of the moulding (from Frameguild's Continental Classics collection). I had just 1 length of this moulding left over from my time in Calgary and just had enough for this frame, so I have to confess that the moulding design in my corners don't match too well.
  • Wrapped an 8-ply mat with Countess Pineapple fabric.
  • Used the same fillet inside the opening of the 8-ply mat
  • Finally have an Alpharag mat (Herb Green) surrounding the artwork.
  • I also used Museum Glass for this frame.

Both pieces of artwork were done by the same person, Dawn Heinemeyer (http://www.heinemeyer.ca), an artist who I framed for while I lived in Calgary.

Beautiful presentations Karen. I love the Profile X deep scoop and the leather backing. These two pieces are so different and will make great additions to your gallery. It's so important for us all to show what we can do with art on our walls.

My only problem is selling these expensive examples a few months later when I want to change displays.

Well done!

Thanks for the compliments, Kirstie. I, too, think it is important to have some 'out of the ordinary' type frames on display.

These two pieces of art belong to me, so at least I won't have to worry about selling them when I want to change display pieces.
