I have a couple of cherished photos of my parents that I want copied and copied well. I'm more than willing to take them to the best of photo labs and pay what it takes, BUT I'M TERRIFIED to leave them in someone else's hands....for fear they'll be lost or mistreated 'cause these are the only copies.

So.......I've been thinken' - oh, oh.....my husband HATES when I do that ;) ..........

Perhaps I should invest in a good scanner and copy them myself. Thus my question is, what do I need? We have an old scanner (not hooked up right now) but what is most important, a very good scanner, a very good program for such (is a program needed?), very good papr or what? Our computer is a HP pavilion if that means anything. Oh yes, our priner is a HP Color Laserjet 1600. Are there special printers needed to make great copies of photos?

All help is greatly appreciated - and any other suggestions! Thank you, thank you!

Scan them and send the files to Image-Edit. Have them print for you. Select the type of paper ... they have several options, and they use quality materials. There are numerous add-on options (e.g. remove damage marks, colorize, etc.).

Open an account with them to get dealer rates. They have some nice point of sale display materials. Nice little add-on to your biz!

Given low volume, saves all the hassle of learning Photoshop or similar, selecting and installing printers, etc.

Any reasonably good scanner will do just fine. Use at least 300 DPI.

BTW Image-Edit and Digital Custom are one and the same.

Sherry,
I like to scan at the highest resolution on a clean scanner, retouch with photo shop...and then send off to Digital Custom for my prints. I just haven't found a printer that I like in comparison...and Digital Custom isn't that expensive for the quality you get. Color is always much better from their prints IMHO.

PS...DC and Image Edit are the same...thanks CA Framer...I love it when I think like the experienced people :o)

Go Digital Custom. You won't have to ever let them out of your sight. I've only recently started with them and have been quite happy with the results. I no longer have to send photo restoration work away and have gotten some great frame jobs I wouldn't have gotten if I had sent them out the door. Use to do that and I never saw them again.

By the way, I use a cheap 5 in One Brother scanner and am thinking of upgrading to a larger better one but the results from the one I have are not bad at all after Digital Custom gets their hands on them.

We have been using DC for years here, and have been pleased with the price and results. I cant tell you how many times a person has come in with a picture of a parent or other ancestor, had it restored, and then had several copies of the result framed for brothers and sisters. (holiday gift, etc)

With at least 2 pos systems, you can plug your scanner right into the machine, and the pos s/w will grab the image from the scanner. It then lets you pick the treatments you want done to the photo(if any), pick the print size, number of copies, and paper type. It also calculates a retail price, as you go. Then it sends off the order to DigitalCustom as part of your nightly closing, via the internet.

It can also be done outside of a POS, through their website. (after you scan it in with your own software) www.image-edit.com

You'll want to give em a ring first, either way, to set up a wholesale account. 1-866-668-8880

Just be sure you import it at a high resolution, for best results.

The original never leaves your sight :)

Best regards,
Mike

OH MY GOSH! You all are fabulous!

I never dreamed such a program was available! It is PERFECT for what I need and can use. You have probably mentioned it a hundred times on TG - I just don't have the time to read it all, so thanks for repeating if you did!

I can't thank you enough!! YOU ARE JUST THE "BESTEST" - what more can I say!!??!!

If they need to be restored, then DC will do a fantastic job. But if they do not need to be restored, then you can get a much better deal having a local printer print them. I wouldn't print them in a kisok at walmart but I'm sure you could find 3000 local printers using pigment based inks there in Phoenix for a good deal less.
