I need to convert some documents that were created in Publisher to PDFs so I can send them to someone. Our old version of Acrobat no longer works. Is there a free PDF converter that I could use. I don't want to by a newer version of a program I may only use once or twice a year. Thanks.

Yep, it still will work, you just pretend and hit print. :)

Well that didn't work. I followed the link but it failed to download a working version of CutePDF. Instead it downloaded links to versions you have to pay for as well as trying to download a bunch of junk I didn't want and crashing Firefox numerous times. Now I'm probably going to have to scrub my computer to make sure nothing nasty got in.

CutePDF is safe, and so is BullZip. There may be imposters out there, but the link Dave posted is the safe one.

If you're doing this from a pc that has LifeSaver installed, you already have one of the above installed. (The POS uses it to generate PDF's of invoices, workorders, quotes, statements, etc)

Anne when I need to email a pdf quote to a customer I will go to the Printers and Devices option off the start button and set the Bull zip as the default printer. Maybe if you go to print out the publisher document you could pick the Bull Zip as your printer from the pull down Print menu.

On a Mac you can create a PDF in any Print dialog box. There is a PDF button through which you can save as a PDF, or fax or email it. This is a standard feature of the operating system.

Rick I found out the hard way that if you want to open a mac Pages file on a PC that you can unzip the file then use Adobe to open the document. It is saved as a pdf file...

These are old files created years ago (about 10) on an older version of Publisher (computer belongs to a group I'm treasurer for). I'll check to see if it has a PDF option but I don't think it does. I tried opening them in a newer version but for some reason, it kept telling me there wasn't enough memory even though it is a small file and a big computer. :icon11:

I’ve never used “Publisher”, but wasn’t that a Microsoft product? If so, would it open in “Word”?

“Word”, I think, can convert documents to .pdf format.

(I'm a Mac Addict so I don't know nuttink 'bout Windoze.)

Thanks Dermot. Your link worked better. It only wanted to install 3 things I didn't want in addition to the CutePDF. I said no to them and now have CutePDF up and running on my computer.

The other link wanted to install at least 6 unwanted programs and wouldn't install CutePDF properly unless I agreed to have my homepage and browser settings changed. That's where I had the problem yesterday. Even though I said no to all but the last one thinking that would install it, it didn't. Instead I wound up with a bunch of price deal and shopping browser software installed on my computer as well as a different home page when I turned it on this morning. Seriously not happy about having to spend my morning deleting all that stuff! :fire:

Bill, you would think all Microsoft programs would be able to open files created in a different one but they aren't. Publisher files come up as gibberish in Word.

from Wikipedia

Publisher's proprietary file format (.pub) is unsupported by almost all other applications, including other Microsoft products,...

Adobe's PageMaker software saves files with a .pub extension but the two files are incompatible and unrelated.

MSO 2013 has "Save As" PDF built in. I use it all the time.

Still nothing like full Adobe Acrobat for some things, though.

PrimoPDF

PrimoPDF will install without any junk. Anything that you can print can be printed as a PDF. It installs as a printer on your system. http://www.primopdf.com. I've been using it for at least 8 years now. Never found a program that it won't work with.
