This is an old tile and its attendant concrete from a '20s home in Coconut Grove. It was taken out of an old bathroom and the client wants to frame a chunk of it after a renovation.

The design is simple - simple black. As I start the project this morning I realize that all that dust from the cement is going to keep falling down - on the BLACK! Not good.

I need to seal this thing somehow and I know one of you geniuses has some great solution to this little quandary.

Thanks in advance,

Pam

You could try cooking up some starch paste and adding some alcohol to make it flow better. This can be brushed into the masonery and it should penetrate and should consolidate and should be relatively invisible. It is neutral which means it will not react with the alkaline concrete as an acidic glue like PVA might do.

Thanks so much, Hugh. Gives me a good excuse for using old stock that's had to give way to Nori which I love. I'm glaD I don't have to go to the hardware store.

Appreciate the response.

How about a black mat against the inside of the glass with the mounted tile recessed behind it? That way, when cement crumbs succumb to gravity, they will fall down behind the mat and not be visable.

I did a hunk of plaster wall this way and it worked well.

"Concrete on black linen"??

Sounds kinda kinky to me...or like the plot of a "CSI-Miami" show.

Kit and Judy - excellent suggestions. Thanks to both of you. I actually went with Hugh's idea and so far so good. Mixed up a whole mess of starch, thinned it and smooshed it all over the place. Had to smear more goo after I made the holes the tap cons would sit in. And now I've got it in a resting mode to see if anymore fish want to swim in the tank.

As for you Charles - comme d'habitude - and now to something completely different. The LBD
(little black dress) is frequently a girl's best friend. Not in this case. As any moll will tell you - it doesn't mix well with cement.

-Comme d'habitude- Whazzat mean? I'm afraid I'm bi-lingual only because I speak excellent Southern (several dialects) and poor English. Although I, too, am an admirer of LBD's and so as not to be discriminatory, LRD's (little red dresses) as well.

Not to WEAR! But a woman of the female persuasion is usually a feast for the eyes in either L(insert color of choice here)D's. Particularly if her feet are not encased in concrete...

And now, back to Pam's thread, shamelessly hijacked, but already in progress!

... and what ever became of that cute little dog that my avatar wanted to take home. Now we have this lone wolf motif. The jury is still out on this new look.

For those of you tuning into the thread - Tap cons didn't work - I may have to resort to silicon! I can just see Scotty telling Captian Kirk that he doesn't know how long she could hold - kinda the way I feel about the silicon and this hunka hunka burning bathroom tile.

Pam,
Here's your doggie, waiting for his new home.
