The CMC Doctor
This document on the Eclipse web site, outlines a few computer upgrade options for Eclipse owners who have a CMC with a serial number that ends in 255 or less. These are all good options but ...

There is an additional option to consider that may save you money and extend the life of your machine for several more years. Click Here for additional details.

Of course there are options for other aging and/or discontinued CMC's as well. If you can't find a solution for your particular needs call me and I will work with you to meet your needs.

These computers work great on Wizard 5000's too.

Mark, with big hard drives gettting sooo cheap, why couldnt/shouldnt 'we' get laptops(properly partitioned to have seperate areas for CMC & 'others') instead of desktops????seems this would allow us the luxury of both worlds...CMC duty during hours and a 'takeitwithyou' after

Mainly because the Eclipse cutter (probably the others as well)requires a special controller board installed into the computer to run and you can't do that with a laptop.

I upgraded my CMC but had to buy a new computer as the old one wouldn't work with the new controller board that is part of the upgrade.

All CMC's use some type of motion controller.

Ralph is right CMC's like the Eclipse, F6100, Wizard 5000, have the motion controller installed inside the PC. You however are also right in that machines like the Wizard 8000 could connect to your laptop since it uses a USB port. Ron Eggers has his MatMaestro connected to a laptop (if I'm not mistaken). The MatMaestro/i-Mat machines connect to the PC via a serial port.

The PC's that I am selling are designed specifically for the CMCs that have the motion controller install directly in the computer and require an expansion slot referred to as an ISA slot - MatWriters, Eclipse's with a serial number of 255 or less, Wizard 5000's, and F6100's (this one is a special case). If anyone tells you that they don't make ISA slots any more have them call me. You just can't buy state-of-the art PC with ISA slots at BEST BUY or COMPUSA. So I have come up with a custom solution for these owners.

Typically owner's of these CMCs are told they need to either trade-in their machines or purchase a new motion controller and either modify their own machine or pay someone to come and do it for them.

I am just providing an alternative solution that is easier on the pocket book.

Personally - PC's on the whole are so cheap now days that I would not use the one on my CMC for anything but running the CMC. If your laptop were stolen, damaged, corrupted by a virus, etc. you couldn't run your CMC. This is just my opinion niether way is right or wrong.

A new PC could be just what your CMC needs to keep pace with your increasing work load - and it's definitely cheaper than a whole new CMC.

Why spend serval thousands of dollars on a new cmc machine or major upgrade when I can make your exiting machine run like new for much less?
