Anyone have any recommendations for a good-quality, great-sounding pair of powered computer speakers. I would prefer to stick to full-range desktop units, without a sub woofer.

I have a nice pair of Altec speakers and tho they also have the subwoofer, they don't need it and sound great without it.

Each speaker is almost 8" high and 3.5" on each side.

I have Bose Companion speakers at the shop. They sound great and the clarity is awesome. My customers comment on how great they sound. The ones I have dont have the subwoofer, but you can get them with it.

That is one of the models I've been looking into. Apparently Bose uses some kind of sound processing circuit to create a spatial illusion. Other considerations are LBL Duet, Creative Labs T-20 or T-12, and M Audio Studio AV40.

I've just built a new computer, purchased a new monitor, and next on the list is a set of powered speakers. After doing a lot of research I came up with the same speakers that a friend recently purchased. He loves them and the reviews online are very good. I haven't made it over to his place for a listen yet, but these hit my budget/quality sweet spot and I think I'll add them after the next Visa bill gets paid off.

I will probably go with the M-Audio, the Creative Labs, or the Bose. Wonder if there is anywhere to go to listen to them and compare. It's hard to order something like speakers without getting to hear them first.
