for any windoz/norton wiz....

just removed the 4yrs old & many times updated/patched version of norton antivirus and reinstalled a fresh cd version(which, of course, promptly-after a small fight on the install-updated all the newest newest stuff), set the general params & the 3am nightly scan, and left it be. now, 2 mornings in a row I have come in and the system has been signed off--I have to enter 'the' paswd and wait for the bootup(no BIG chore, but PIA).
I leave a web music station on 24/7 and always before norton would only disable that so I'd have to click "play".
I went thru all the norton params again and find nothing to point to this situation....no system params have been changed(that "I" know about)....

any ideas on the subject(before I call norton tech)
thanks all

In the future, I dont suggest Norton. It has become so bloated and slow, its worth than a virus IMO. :) :)

Microsoft should have rebooted your pc overnight either last night or the night before - because of the monthly update. If it happens again tonight, I'd be concerned.

It wouldn't hurt to run a spyware/adware scan using a program that does so. At www.download.com you can grab the freeware AD-AWARE 2007 product.

It may have just been Windows Update doing its thing, and possibly even catching up if it was previously disabled. If so, the newer Norton may have turned the automatic updates back on.

It sounds like I've suddenly developed a lisp, doesnt it? :)

That should have been "worse"

MIKE--
you were right about windoz/updates doing funny stuff---this a.m. I'm back to 'normal'....isnt it kinda funny this happened 2 days in a row?

about the sloooooowing down of the system under Norton---I really havent noticed any degredation(only time I get irritated is when it does a virus scan upon opening up a previously saved excel/word --that seems like a little over kill?)
