Fortunately, what has faded are the orgainc reds and red light is the least energtic part of the visible spectrum.

Does this add justification for glazing fine art with UV-protective glazing?

It might, though it could also mean that artists should use materials that are durable. Late 19th. c. saw the introduction of some delightful pigments that were also extremely fugitive. Rothko apparently didn't get the memo. How would you glaze a wall sized mural, by the way?
