Curious...

What is this?? "hainmaille & jumpring business"

It's evil as in Mideval..... Surely you have some if not it is a must have...

Kathleen has been weaving chainmaille jewelry from precious metal jumprings for quite a few years but was experiencing quality issues with the Argentium Sterling (tarnish resistant).

We started making/selling jumprings a couple of years ago and the gross sales are approaching that of our picture framing business. 8 hours of picture framing followed by 8 hours of jumpring making doesn't leave much time for anything else. Initially, we were ordering sterling and goldfilled wire measured in ounces. Now, we're ordering it by the pound(s). Add to that, Titanium & Niobium to be cut & anodized in-house.

ChainWeavers Precious Metal, Niobium, Titanium & base metal Jumprings

Finished chainmaille jewelry examples. The website is in shambles but the pics are still good. I'll be moving it to a "Real" shopping cart as soon as the weather here goes south.

Rick,

Making jump rings takes me back to the 70's when I worked with some friends on the weekends. They did over 25 art fairs a year with fabricated jewelry made with jump rings. They bought their silver direct from Handy and Harman with 500 oz minimums.

I used to make all the jump rings on mandrels inserted in an electric drill and cut them with a Fordum cut off blade. I made 1,000's at a time. It was filthy work.

Update...

Rick,

How has the transition gone? Have you sold off the framing side of things or just diminished this a bit?

Hope all is well.

John

Hi John. Thanks for asking.

We've been out of our retail location for just over a month now. Most of the fixtures, artwork & materials were donated to local organizations that could use them for their "auction events" or classes.

We have the F-6100, Seal 500-TX and F-3000 in storage along with a few other smaller items but just haven't had the time to update this posting. Still for sale if anyone is looking.

We now have time to spend building the online business which is growing faster than either Kathleen or I expected. So far, every month this year has doubled last year's total. We spent the last 2 weeks building a sister site to ChainWeavers and just took it out of the maintenance mode yesterday. Loading 3500+ product combinations along with the pricing formulae was quite the data entry task.

This weekend is for converting pounds of wire into little jumprings.
