1) Frame used: Larson Juhl Velagio Lacewood
2) Matting used: Crescent Suede in various colors
3) Description of item framed: Magazine article
4) Description of framing design: Shadow box design meant to display the article written abouut this person in a creative way.
5) other comments you would like to share about the project (like items used, techniques used): My friend Beau Parker is a "dice coach" in Vegas. He teaches people the rules of craps, how to play and bet, and how to throw the dice to their best advantage. A couple issues ago he was written up in Cigar Aficionado Magazine for his classes and the lessons he gave Stanford Wong, one of the gurus of casino blackjack. I wanted Beau to be able to display the article in his home craps pit where he gives his lessons. I purchased a casino sized craps felt and mounted it to gator. I then mounted the article pages to boards of different thicknesses and sewed them to the craps felt. They were sewed to make sure they would stand up to being shipped to Vegas. A thin mat of crescent suede was placed around the edges of the article boards, finishing them off and hiding the stitches. The middle pages were mounted on thinner boards, then the 4 side pages on thicker ones to overlap on the corners adding to the feeling of depth. A stack of chips were placed as a bet on the pass line at his favorite position at the table. At the other end a pair of dice were set on edge like they had been tossed and the angles and numbers showing match his logo. A crescent suede mat with many foam lifts was placed on top simulating the color of the wood rail surrounding the craps board and it was finished off with the lacewood frame which matches his existing decor. The frame wasn't deep enough to accomodate everything so it was extended with black, which match the sides of the frame. It is glazed with Tru Vue museum glass and measures about 40 x 54. It wasn't fun to ship.

This is a framed collection of memorabilia of an older gentleman that passed away. It tells the story of his life, including pics of his childhood up to just before going to glory. It includes all items of his interest & era, showing some of his paintings, business cards, hobbies, his favorite Bible passage in hid Dutch BIble, his shaver, bottle collections etc. (Incidently, the bottom left is a family pic (family of 17)) It has a double frame, the rear one is one edge & has been adapted. Incidently , (we have this one our display wall) this display frame shows all the different styles & methods of mounting that we do: tulle (bottle on bot right), shrinkwraped flute, screwmount shaverbrush, custom brackets for harmonica, mylar bot ctr bottle, clips on shaver, coin clips, conservation corners, invisible string glasses, as well as silicone, tape, drymounting etc. It also shows various ways of mounting photos etc: flush, float, in window, in corners, etc. Enjoy!

This first one is on Midnight Bainbridge suede. The frame escapes me but its a simple half round walnut. The customer wanted small and classy and not big. The O.D. of the piece is 16X24.

1) Frame used:
Albor 127.41.301 (Metallica series! Fits perfectly with the topic!)

2) Matting used:
Bainbridge black Alphamat

3) Description of item framed:
CD+cover+feathers+a gold record plaque (brass)

4) Description of framing design
Frame+glass+five sided acrylic box, that is closed on the back (not like
normally - open on the back). Frame is attached to the box with clear
silicone. The box has a separate compartment around the edges for barbed
wire. The black matboard under all the stuff is glued on the acrylic

5) other comments you would like to share about the project (like items
used, techniques used)
We made 15 of these for the record company. Really a non-conservation
project due to tight budget. Everything is attached with silicone. These
are just for decorative purposes. Still a nicely profitable job! Biggest
headache was to find barbed wire!

1) Frames used: Honey burls. Smaller burls were used for the lids over the "storage compartments" and all frames on Native American women's old photos. Inlaid burls were used around each individual storage box and the removable top. A pine framework was used for tower and plywood covered with mat board and suede fabric for the bottom. Burl moulding was cut to trim the bottom base. Fabric was used on the bottom of the base as well.

2) Matting used: A rich green suede hand wrapped fabric on each individual mat and on base and inside of all boxes and the corners of the tower.
A printed accent fabric was used behind frames on the center "tower" to show movement and the Native American design and spirit.

3) Description of items framed: This 4 sided box was designed to hold native American Artifacts and Native American Women's photos. This box is meant to be used by the owner as a spiritual piece and for storage as well as be a decorative piece in the home.

4) Description of framing design: This was designed as a box to show off an arrow head collection and other precious artifacts ( found objects new and old ) by the owner. Note the top is in a somewhat cross shape. This is intentional in the design. Native Americans used a similar symbol ( like a swastika ) in their designs. The top is lined to hold sand and rocks from the river. Note under the top lid is storage space as well as behind each picture inside. All art may be removed easily to use the interior compartments. Lids all open on the base for artifact storage.

5) Other Comments:
This box is called "Lodge". It was named after the teepees which were called Lodges. There are probably over 88 cuts in the frame design as well as interior construction for the tower and base. The base is mounted on a turn table so that it may be turned to view all sides. The interior was lined with suede fabric as well. UV Acrylic was used on all the storage areas on the base as well as the hanging art on the sides.

2) Matting used:4162 Bainbridge
3) Description of item framed:Terra cotta relief from Italy
4) Description of framing design
A shelf was made out of another matching moulding so the terra cotta piece could be supported from underneath. L-shaped brackets covered with rubber were used on the top to hold it in place.. then they were painted with acrylic to match the artwork. The suede mat was sprayed with a fabric guard to keep stains away it was mounted on a sheet of plywood to give rigidity and support to the entire piece.

(sorry I cannot get this photo to post... I will post it once the person who submitted gives me a different format.)

Here is the information:
1. Larson-Juhl 1 3/8" #573 Imperial Silver attached to custom built birch box.
2. Crescent Moorman Teal Suede
3. This beautiful, hand fashioned, Mardi Gras mask is exquisite with 10" multi-colored, natural feathers of purple, green & gold. The tie-on leather half mask is adorned with elaborate sequins and beads in the traditional colors of New Orleans masquerade balls.
4. The finished product measures 24" x 22" x 10". Since the customer's moulding choice was only 4" deep, a 6" deep box of solid birch was built to attach to the Larson moulding to provide the depth needed to allow for the free flowing feathers. The raw birch was primed and varnished with a mixture of Liberon's St. Germain and Sceaux to match the Imperial Silver finish. Conservation clear glazing.
5. An 8" styrofoam ball was sliced in half and covered with black velvet (laced and glued). The mask ties were sewn to the velvet as were various other points of the mask. The ball was then adhered to the suede mat using acid-free white glue.
