I have been getting my chopper blades sharpened by a company locally but the last few times I brought them in I wasn't happy with their quality. I have contacted a couple of companies I found in PFM and was wondering if anyone has an opinion or a recommendation. The companies I have checked with are:
Quality Saw & Kife Co., Inc in West Babylon, NY
Rite-Way Sharpening, Inc in Lynbrook, NY
Any comment and/or recommendation is appreciated

We no longer use the chopper, since we bought a saw 3 years ago, but had EXCELLENT results by sending them to TECH MARK. We used to send them 2 pairs of knives at a time, and the turnaround was fast. (we have 4 sets) Previously, we used a local company that was flat grinding them. We still use this company for our saw blades, and they do a great job for that.

Some folks also rave about QUALITY SAW in NY.

Flat Ground vs Hollow Ground seems to make a big difference, in our experience. This is what the manufacturer suggests. In theory, the hollow ground method puts less stress on the moulding. It also seems to go twice as long between sharpenings, but it could have been due to the quality of the company we used.

We did a poll about this nearly 3 years ago, and it was somewhat of a 50/50 situation. Here are the results:

If you have a chopper, how do you have the knives/blades sharpened?
39% Hollow Ground
30% Flat Ground
28% I dont know!
03% Other (please see thread)

Joe,

We’ve been using Quality for our Morsø for several years and their service is excellent.

The turnaround time for me in New Hampshire is about a week. They can also provide you with a reusable, wooden shipping container (for a one time fee) to enable you to send and receive your blades without having them damaged in transit.

Saw Sharpening Experts.................

We have used Eide Saw and Knife Service from Minneapolis, Minnesota, (612/789-3288)for more than 15 years and have never been dissappointed.

Dave at Eide has forgot more about blades than most ever know. He is a great reference for material cutting and blade issues.

We have had them do the sharpening on all of the MN200 blades we use for metal and wood. They have rebuilt a number of shoulders on our blades where teeth have been knocked off. They have also sharpened our fillet chopper blades.

Very competitive pricing and the result is always a great cut.

Hope this is useful.

Rob

Thank you all - I have now some great references and will be able to get a good job done - I'm tired of the "crunched moulding". Again, thank you. Joe

I would recommend Atlas Saw company, out of Spring Grove, IL. (815/675-1333). I've used 3 other companies and this one has got to be one of the best in the country.

We use Quality Saw & Knife and have never been disappointed. Turn around time for me is about 1 week.
