I'm too antsy to wait 'til Monday to call our suppliers to see if Crescent Color Core comes 40" x 60". The regular size will do, but oversize would be better. Our corner samples are a few years old. Does anyone know if it comes oversize now? (I don't feel like painting the bevels on eight large mats).

If you are referring to the Brite Core mats, I believe that 32 x 40 is the maximum size. If you need a larger overall size, perhaps you could make the Brite Core a bottom mat, and add a larger top mat of oversize all-white rag or black-core black to correspond to the surface color of your Brite Core.

As far as I know the only color cores that are available in oversize are Black cores. You might look into Tru-Vue Miller mats. They claim to make all boards in all sizes (though my supplier carries only 32 x 40). Again, black is the only core color choice.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Rick. Yep, Brite Core is what I meant. I guess I'll just have to pare the size down to 40" max. These are double mats, and I need that Brite Core on the top one, too.

Of course, you could always paint the bevel. That way you can get any color you want.

"You want it when?!?!?"

That's right, paint the bevel. Or use prismacolor colored pencils.

...but I really didn't want to paint the bevels! I've practice painting bevels with acrylic paint after reading the info on the No Corner Samples? thread.

I used the removable tape method that Jim Miller recommended. It worked well on most matboard, but not on suede (didn't try it on cloth mats). I was careful with the paint application, and there was still bleeding under the tape. Just a little, but enough to be annoying. And it didn't scrape off too well. The best result was with the black paint on a flat archival board. I could try the products (gouache or Dr. Martin's something?) that Jim mentioned.

Then I came back and read Jo's post about the tape residue sticking to the glass. Now, what to do about painting bevels? I can't stand the suspense of painting it freehand without masking it first. It just looks better when it's masked.

I still wish Brite Cores came oversized!

I'm with you on that one, I wish that Brite Cores came in oversize as well. When I run into that situation, however, I use a double mat, white or black on top <depending on which brite core it was that I wanted to use> and the colour beneath it, showing as little as possible! And if you are using a black on the top, and don't want that WHITE bevel to show <yes, I'm talking RAG< RAG< RAG> reverse it! I don't paint mats, I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not a practice that I'm into.

Good day,
