Fixxed Frames and Art
Hi there, I'm In Australia. I have a Valiani Matpro CMC running on Windowsn XP. We don't use it very often as we are heading to retirement, but as my wife and i are artists we want to continue making frames and mats. On advice from Valiani the computer has never been upgraded. lately we have had issues with Future Mat Designer, but after consultation with local supplier Antons and Valiani in Italy these have been sorted. Tech says that it possible my computer is slowly dying as it forgets some settings and needs reset most times we start it up however there have been some FMD upgrades installed by supplier to fix some of these issues, the latest a month or two ago. today FMD wants to know the serial number (It's obviously forgotten it), but i can't find the disc with the serial number. is there any way of finding it?.
As a second question, I;m told that we need to scrap the computer, but to replace it we would have to buy new version of FMD with total cost of $2000 -2500.
Any thoughts... Appreciate any help or advice here

Welcome to the picture framer's Grumble, Nick!

I think someone posted this same question recently, regarding an older Valiani with the Future software, and it re-asking for the serial # to install.

I believe the cause was a failed battery inside an older computer.

I wonder if you are experiencing the same thing?

Valiani (from Italy) would have to generate a replacement serial #, but I would check into if that battery can be replaced first. Many motherboards just take a standard CR2450N battery that you can replace yourself. Some others are soldered in, unfortunately. Windows XP was from 2001, and almost 20 years is AMAZING from a single battery.

Best regards and welcome!

The motherboard on the CMC control unit takes a CR2450N. Make sure you get the N, as they are different. The N version is harder to find, but you can get it from Amazon.

Ah there is one in the CMC controller, too!
