I don't know if like manual mat cutters, the CMC blades are interchangable or not. I am using the Wizard premium blades, and am not sure how many cuts per blade to average. I really hate to mess up mats, so I'm probably changing them way too frequently, instead of waiting til I see fuzzy edges. I use lots of rag mats and also lots of fabric mats, and I always figure the blade is less than screwing up a $20 mat. However, blades used to be 10 cents each! Has anybody kept track of this?

Ron,
Thanks for the links, they answered my question. I usually try the search function before I post but I am pretty tired today and my brains have apparently leaked out my ears.

We are distributors for both the Eclipse and the Wizard. Change your blades as often as you would on your straight line cutter. Blades are cheap! Mats are not. You should charge .20 per mat job. You will make a profit, it is a cost of goods, and the cost of the blade is not an issue. Of course I once suggested to a customer who wanted to go to Atlanta that if she added one dollar to every invoice and took this dollar and put it in a trade show account she could go to Atlanta and maybe New York. "What! My customers would never pay an extra dollar!" So what do I know.

John,
Actually, I recently read the advice on the Grumble to add $1 to each line item on the invoice. I think this is such a good thing I'm going to try it. My mom (my partner) says, "Great idea! How are we going to disguise it on the invoice? I know, we'll add it to the PIA (Pain in the ....you get the drift) charge!"
You gotta love her!

Leslie: I believe that a few of the POS systems actually have a place where you can put in an amount that will automatically add the amount in specified line items so it just shows up as a cost. (Similar to auto dealers: shop fee) The POS systems allow this so you can cover misc. shop supplies, subscriptions, ect. In the database this acutally shows up in a different catagory for accounting purposes. If your POS doesn't allow this or if you're not using POS I'd just put it out there as a shop supply or glass disposal fee or something creative and see how it goes.

I'm thinking about separate line items with labels like:

</font>
  • Atlanta Trade show </font>
  • Las Vegas trade show </font>
  • FACTS support </font>
  • Auto insurance for 17-year-old male driver </font>
  • The Diva's college fund </font>
  • Trip to Ireland to meet Dermot </font>
I'm sure I'll think of others.
