Looking for any tips to unclogg a double sided tape gun that has become sooooh stiff and difficult to use. Have tried some solvent but not so good on plastic. Buying a new one may be the option but was hoping for a more economical way... thanks

Examine your shop rate. Examine the amount of time needed to ungum your ATG gun. Buy a new one.

But take the old one home, as a little stiffness won't be annoying in the craft room....

Take the gun apart and rub all pieces with Johnsons Paste wax or any other brand of paste wax. Works for me and keeps the gun from getting gunked up.

And find ways of using less ATG! e.g. use dots of PVA to join mats not ATG. Better, cheaper, less gunk.

I degunk my rarely used tape gun with the tackiest tape I can find - usually duct tape which very nicely lifts off layers of old residue.

Easy peasy. :icon21:

Suggestion for Clogged up tape gun

I take mine apart a couple of times of year and clean all the little bits and pieces. I soak them in adhesive release in a small paint tray....pour in a bit of the adhesive release, cover the tray with a piece of foil to prevent evaporation and come back in a few minutes...old tape will be ready to be wiped off with a paper towel.

Yes, I suppose I could throw out but they all gum up so quickly I'd be doing that several times a year!
