I have been in the market for a while now (about 4 months) for a mat cutter however i am so confused with all the brands. I currently have a company doing it for me but i want to give it a shot and increase profit. These are i believe the way things show the big players:CHRONOMAT, FLETCHER & VALLIANI.
Which one please? i like them all (looks wise) but which works best?
Thank you all in advance.

I'm guessing you are talking about table-top straight line cutters. If so, you are going to get many opinions - best is to try them all, compare the goods & bads, then make your choice. Myself, I like the Fletcher - I have the 60" 2200. It does everything I want it to do and you don't have to be a engineering major to be able to operate it. Lots of luck

Probably any of those professional models you would be happy with. Myself personally, I liked the feel of the Chronomat better and purchased a 60" model, it is now my back-up to my Wizard. I wouldn't trade it or get rid of it because I know anytime I need to I can take it off of it's wall hook, put in a new blade and be cutting perfect mats.

Others will swear by their machines as well. My only suggestion is to stay away from the hobby type machines. (Of course some will swear great success with them too.)

My opinion on one of these manufacturers is already buried somewhere in the Grumble.

I'm assuming you may also be talking about CMC's..and if you are...here's my input.

One month after purchasing a $24,000 Fletcher 6100 CMC I was mailed a discontinue notice. Sure, its been a wonderful machine and yes, I had an extended warranty... I've had no real complaints as far as the hardware...only minor issues. They do still sell parts.

However, I can't recommend buying from a company that knowingly sold me (without even a blink or a hair of a discount) such an expensive machine knowing prior to the moment they delivered it that it was already on the way out. I must have been the last to buy one..and if I wasn't...its even worse. As far as the resale value goes...I lost that on my machine right away. I have no choice but to continue with it until the end of its useful life.

They've also carried and dropped several different models of matcutters already.

They lost my loyalty.

What about Wizard? Thought about them?

If you're talking about a tabletop mat cutter... C&H and Fletcher are both good. Ill just never invest in Fletcher's CMC's again...

My experience was almost identical to Janet's, but my reaction was almost the opposite of hers. I was not offended by Fletcher's decision, and to my knowledge, nobody has suffered for buying an F6100. They still provide parts and support for them.

Janet, when you are ready to sell your F6100, you may be surprised at what it is worth. I sold mine last year for $6,000, when I bought a new Fletcher/Valiani MatPro150i. Not a bad price for a decade-old CMC, and it was worth every penny.

The F6100 is still among the best-built CMCs available. Mark Eaton's CMC Doctor offers an upgrade of the computer and software that will probably keep the majority of them working for years to come.

Not exactly. There have been two CMC product lines. The F6100 was dropped, and all of the Valiani's are now sold directly by Valiani's USA branch.
