I need a Chrome finish frame that has the high polished look of Nielsen 01 silver, but in a profile similar to Framerica BW26966 1 1/4" face, 3/4" Side. The finish on the Framerica is not reflective enough for the customer. I really need something that very closely resembles Chrome. I know that the 01 finish comes in a whole slough of profiles, but none of them fit the customers needs. Thanks for your help

Williamson has several profiles that are about as chrome as I have seen. I dont have Framerica's samples, so I cant compare.

So the first question is, "How much is your customer willing to spend?" The easiest way to achieve exactly what you are looking for is in a welded aluminum frame that is high polished to look like chrome.

If it has to be real chrome, have a steel frame welded, then chromed (like by a chroming house used by chopper builders, first it is copper plated to fill all voids then chromed.) Then you glue a wood strainer to the inside for fitting.

In LA, Jerry Solomon can make it for you. Maybe A Street in the east coast.

Actually any good welding shop that can weld aluminum can do it. The trick is in the quality of the welded miters and the polishing of the face. A place that polished mag wheels can also do it, but someone like Solomon can do everything.

As Soon as I mentioned this, the customer's eyes lit up, but the first words out of his mouth were, HOW EXPENSIVE IS THAT GOING TO BE?? As much as I'd like to go this route, I don't think this customer has that type of budget in mind.

It appears Rust-oleum makes a chrome spray paint in their metallic line. Paint your own:shrug:

Erik, Rob was sniffing around the right answer... but just didn't walk through the door.

Have the chrome shop polish out the aluminum skin on the Framerica stuff. It just needs to also be sealed.... before the thumb prints. Krylone clear high gloss.

Who knows, while you're there, you might just make a sale on framing some chopper pictures. :D

I could take it to a shop, but couldn't I also just buy a aluminum polishing compound, and do it myself? If so, that is an amazing idea my dear sir. Would I need something to break down the seal that's on there first? or will the polishing compound break that down?

Power buffer? and what compound?

Try a bit of Maguires on a corner sample... I think there is one that is more aggressive for "rubbing out" . . . Never Dulls is a great final polish for aluminum Primary cases on the old HD 74s . . . .

I wonder if the neighbors would complain about me going out and firing up the polishing wheels.....I've got those samples in my Williamson cases..... :D

Just bought This On recommendation from some guys on the Harley Davidson Forum.

This would be operating under the assumption that the framerica moulding actually has aluminum on it. According to Framerica's Tech guys, there is no aluminum in the product, it's a "Laminate" I used a bit of the polishing compound I bought, and got it to shine a little better, but it doesn't appear that I'll be able to buff out the brush lines.

However, the guy @ Framerica did tell me about another line of silver mouldings, called their "Museum" finish, which has a mirror like High polished finish and is sending me a sample.
