I'm sending my Morso chopper blades out to be sharpened and I began wondering how many frames other frame shops can cut using newly sharpened blades before they need resharpening. I know this can vary depending on the number of chops and moulding size, but what's a good average number?

Maybe twice a year after my oak mouldings start to become squished.

One more variable is the amount and type of compo that is on frames. The more the compo and the coarser the compo the shorter the time between sharpening.
Most of our wood moulding is done with a double miter saw now. We still have a Jyden as a backup. When we were using the chopper day in day out, the blades were sharpened monthly.

Also depend on the quality of the blade. There are, or were, companies manufacturing blades for Jyden and Morso choppers in Japan and in what was Yugoslavia. Neither of these are nearly as good as original equipment and need sharpening far more often.

Using genuine Morso blades, sharpened by Tech-Mark, and cutting only real hardwoods, we chop somewhere around 2,000 frames between sharpenings.
