Chinese Dinner at PPFA Las Vegas

Hi all-

After contacting PPFA and planning the Chinese dinner for March 8th (on a day when the board was not having their dinner), I was informed that the PPFA board dinner had been rescheduled to March 8th.

So, before I cancel the limo and try to reschedule (if possible)-

Is there interest in another dinner? (enough so I can cover the limo cost?)

If you are interested, please post on this thread. Same wonderfully fun time and great food, and at a cost that won't break the bank. The most expensive table on our last dinner was $20 per person (actually it was $18, but no one wanted to deal with the $1's). Average table was $13 per person! (plus limo).

If we can change the date, it will most likely be March 9th. If not, we are still on for the 8th.

I really wanted the PPFA Board members to participate, so I offered to switch the dinner from the 8th to the 9th. I only received one reply, but that is enough to make me work on the switch, and it seems like we will have enough people to cover the limo. So, tomorrow I will contact the limo company to see if I can change the date to the 9th. We will also have to make it a bit later because of the "Face to Face" reception. We will depart from the Convention Center but I will have the limo make a stop at Bally's as well as the Las Vegas Hilton for the return. We can also add other hotel stops as needed.

So, those interested, please stay tuned until tomorrow and I will reconfirm the details.

Also, while I really want this Las Vegas experience to be "cost effective" for everybody, I am not thrilled with people providing their own transportation and also offering others a "lift" so they don't have to pay for the limo because it may be the difference between being able to do this or not doing it at all.

Think of it this way, if you want to "come to the party", the invitation costs $20 per person and you get classy transportation as an extra added attraction. Add the $20 to your dinner tab and it still is a bargin, especially for Las Vegas. So, if you want to come, please sign up for the whole experience or I'll tell the bouncers at the door not to let you in :)
 
I want to go, but might have to catch up with you guys a little later. Perhaps I can catch a cab out to the restaurant? Could I purchase a limo ticket (or two) so that I could a least make one leg of the trip?

To quote one of my more youthful employees,
"I love me some good Chinese".
(That sentence should lure The Cap'n out of hiding)
 
If you are going to the PMA show, you HAVE to visit the Chinese dinner event. :)It's a great time, and the food and company are excellent. The best deal in Vegas!

Here are some pics from the dinner a couple weeks ago (same place, different trade show). Notice how big the limos were. You can see how it works with the large tables and lazy susan in the center of each table. Everyone orders what they want, takes a portion, and spins it around for others to share. Most tables were $12-$13, including drinks, entrees, and appetizers. OUR particular table was $18

Great news- I have received enough private e-mails with interest that it looks like we will have enough to make this event happen!

Including a request for a ticket from none other than Paul Frederick. Boy, I hope I sit at HIS table.

Still have not been able to confirm the date with the limo company...so stay tuned until tomorrow when I hope that I will have final comfirmation.

Please tell him Valorie from Willits (where I had my first shop) that plays the guitar said hello, and that I'm still framing and it's all his fault!

Hi all-

We are on for Friday, March 9th at 8 PM. The limo will pick us up at the Las Vegas Convention Center and after dinner will return to Ballys, The Las Vegas Hilton, and possible a few stops between.

There is a siginificant cost difference for the limo on a Friday night, but I want the Board of the PPFA to have an opportuity to join us, so we moved the date to Friday. (Sorry, Jim) We need a minimum of 16 people and I am confident we will reach that number by convention time, so we are on for FRIDAY.

INCLUDE a Self Addressed, Stamped envelope, and write your name clearly (and those who are attending if more than one person) and I will mail you your tickets.

This cost is for the LIMO only. Dinner will be shared by those at each table.

Once again, order whatever you want to eat and drink. At the end of the meal the restaurant will total the bill for the table, add a gratuity, and then the table rounds the bill to the next number easily divisable by the number of people at the table. No, "but you had two beers and I only had egg rolls!" If you aren't happy with this arrangement, please do not join us- The "average bill including tip has rarely exceeded $20 per person and the average table last month was $13 per person!

I took my first framing class from Paul Frederick in 1977! Tell him Kirstie Bennett's "Framing Academy" diploma with the pink and gold overcut paper mats still hangs in my office and I have never had the heart to update it. It's a classic. Thanks to Paul for starting what has been a wonderful life for me.
 
Thanks to all who have sent me their checks. We still have room in the limo, so if you want to come FRIDAY March 9th, we will meet outside the Face to Face reception at 7:45 (maybe 7:30 if we're all there and ready to go). Since the PPFA Convention is on the EAST side of the convention center, I will try to have the limo meet us there so we do not have to compete with the shuttle busses, taxis and other limos.

If you want to come, please send $20 per person and CLEARLY tell me the names of those attending:

I don't get in until 2 PM on Wednesday and I am not sure I am coming over to the convntion center until early Thursday - but you know we will find each other before the event. It will be great to be with Q + C again and I finally get to meet Sarah!

With your four, we are OVER booked, but we will suck it in and eveyone will go....but NO MORE.

It might be way too late for this, but I was wondering if Gabe Kiley and I could join the group for dinner. We could find our own transportation to the restaurant. If not, no big deal. Just thought I'd check in case there was room for two more.

The single limo is full, but the restaurant can handle about 6 limos full of people. I'm sure you will be welcomed!
 
We have 32 people signed up, so we can do 4 tables of 8 and can actually do four tables of ten, but the last time, to "even up" the tables, the tables "voted someone off" and they were forced to the "castaway table." The "problem" is getting everyone there. The limo really only seats 30.

I don't mind as long as the tables are full, but I really don't want a remainder table of four.

So, if we can squeeeeeeeze another two into the limo (it won't be pretty) you are welcome to join us, otherwise you can cab it over - there will be plenty of room at the restaurant, I just don't want people sitting at a table of two-four.

If we get enough interest on Thursday, and I can get another limo, we can do like we did last month, run two limos there and then the return was done with one limo doing a "round trip." People with early schedules can go on the earlier limo, and then the rest go back about 20-30 minutes later. But, I need at least another 18 people to make it cost effective. (25 per limo) So, spread the word at the show and we'll see what happens.

Dave Smith just told me he would like to come, but did not contact you yet. He is very interested, so if someone is driving, or cabbing, I am sure he would like to come. He just said he would call you tomorrow.

Baer, you ALWAYS call shotgun! I am sooo bummed that I had to bail. I am examining for the MCPF until 9pm. Man, I HATE missing Chinese! You guys have a great time!
 
I am not eating, but Joe is and I'd love to see the Websters and Sarah again plus with the DECOR crew going, I have to go, don't I? I can drink tea and watch you all eat. I'll still pay the full tab and hopefully Joe will eat for both of us. If there is room, count two more in.
