How often does a customer bring something to you and say "just make it look great" and leave? Well, I did what I thought looked great, and this is what I came up with. It is a large marquis poster advertising the great Chicago Symphony Brass section concert - 30"x40" frame (Gemini G-7203) and I designed the mat with sort of "Prairie Style" influence. (No, I don't have a computerized mat cutter.) It was for a member of the brass section - it sure gave me great pleasure to do this.

Wow! That's beautiful. You guys that cut things like that by hand really impress me. Great job.

Nice looking mat, I will have to add that one to my box of tricks.

Wonderful! The mat design works very well with the type style of the poster, and of course the "prairie" influence is appropriate for Chicago. The frame is perfect too- I like the shape, and the "brass" tone of gold. Great design all around.

In the right hands, the venerable straightline cutter is still capable of producing very cool effects, as long as they involve straight lines.
You just have to concentrate so you don't make an accidental reverse bevel on that last cut.

One of the pieces I have in my shop that still gets frequent compliments was done before I ever had the Wizard. It is a novelty piece that has an abstract zigzag 'starburst"-shaped opening which I did by quickly drawing on the back of the mat in pencil and just cutting to the lines.

I would love to see that, Rick! Do you have pictures of it??

I assume you're talking about TopHat's creation, and not mine (which I wouldn't necessarily describe as "tasteful").
