Changing a pdf back to a Word doc?

I have always used the pdf format to email writing to anyone because for some strange reason (brace yourself) I always encounter problems with Word. LOL.

Problem with pdfs is that they are un-editable, as far as I can tell. Maybe I don't push the right buttons. I dunno.

Anyways, I just discovered a need to transform a pdf back into a Word doc and the only way I could do that was to copy and paste it and when it showed up in my Word doc all of the formatting was gone. No paragraphs.

Any solutions????? :help:

TYVM!

(Won't y'all be glad when I get back to framing on Tuesday?)

PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements allow editing in PDF. Adobe Acrobat is another that allows for it. Do you have any of these.

I must have Acrobat or I wouldn't be able to see the pdf, right?

Don't have Photoshop - have free knock-off photo editing programs (Arc-soft).

Acrobat Reader is free and that must be what you have. PhotoShop Elements runs about $50 and has most of what the majority of PhotoShop owners use. This is great editing and restoration software for those printing and editing photos.

I went thru all of the menu options on the top of the pdf and even after checking the "edit" option I could not edit it. Managed to reformat it in Word OK but it was a PITA.

Somedays I do believe my little computer hates me...... ;)

No despair, Mar. I just went through the same thing with a PDF quote for a remodeling job here at home.

Frankly, I wouldn't want someone to be able to edit my proprietarian doc either. I could wreak havoc on it. Also did the transfer to Word and it wasn't the same. And, IMO, it shouldn't be able to be editted. :icon45:

Seems like there should be an Edit/No Edit toggle somewhere - like Hide/Unhide in Excel. Because sometimes ya wants ta be ables ta edit tings and sometimes ya dont's.

I tried Open Office once and couldn't make heads nor tails of the way they saved documents - and they wanted to rename all of my Word .doc documents into whatever file extension name they came up with for documents. So I gave up and probably deleted the program.

I'll go look and see if I still have it.

Well I must have deleted the Open Office program but guess what - I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 - never thought that a photo program would have the capability to edit a document. Hmmmmm..... Thought I gave that the axe years ago!

All documents can be locked from edits by the original author no matter what software is used. You just have to find the commands in the menus.

Open Office allows you to save in any format when you choose save as then the extension you want is chosen by you. To open the document you want to view or edit simply open the Open Office Word processor program (not on this computer so I don't recall it's name) and choose the document from your documents folder.

Mar, your can't make heads or tails comment is the problem with most computer users. You want to jump from one software to the next without learning how to use them. It is human nature but the fact is these things take work no matter what software is used. The new version of Word supports PDF but once again you have to buy new software and learn to use it. There is no magic bullet, it all takes work.

I know what you mean about learning these things, Jeff - I have been struggling with Word for years now - finally got far enough to edit, format and publish a real live book this year with a TOC yet!

Not gonna try any newer versions than the ones I have been wrangling with.

Change is good, but let me get this one down first!

Thanks for the Open Office suggestion - perhaps I'll give that another try - Word is awfully quirky (at least to me!). (Or is it true that I am the only person who ever gets the , "We're sorry, Microsoft Word had encountered a problem and has to shut down, hang on while we try to save your document - send error report?" message?) ;) (I have that sucker memorized!)

Clive - thank you very much for this precious little program! It worked! It worked!

Hey Baer - check it out!!! It works!!!

Happy Happy HAPPY!!!!!

What makes me so very especially happy with this little free software program is that so many times I have tried to send Word documents to folks and either they won't go out or the recipients can't open them or see them. '

That is why I was so happy to find (thru a Grumble recommendation, of course) the Cutepdf writer - that has solved a LOT of my problems.

Except of course when the received document needed to be editable.

What a silly world we have gotten ourselves into - but BLESS YOU CLIVE!!! :)
