Question Catching shavings from your chopper

I have a Morso Chopper and I love it. My problem is catching the shavings from the mouldings I am cutting. How do any of you handle all the trash that collects? I've tried making boxes fit but they always interfer with the chopping process. There has to be a better way than just letting it drop to the floor and cleaning often. Is this a dumb question?

I have an extension with a tray that slides out from the front.

I've done the same thing that John has. It makes the step pedal higher, but helps keep me limber.

:o

Similar to John, but I take the shavings out the side due to limited space. 4X4 along the back, 4X4 along the front and a 4X4 where the step hits the ground all screwed to a plywood base. Plywood on th front to stand on.

But still have to scrape it out and clean up a lot!

I saw one somewhere that was in a carpetted box/platform. It had a drawer that pulled out for the shavings. It looked really nice, and neat. I want to add a sloped "out feed tray" on mine so that the wood would come out the side and remind me to clean it up!

A Shop Vac with the full extension - don't even have to bend over. Clean up end of every day. Takes 3 to 4 minutes before I turn down the heat and shut off the lights.

I have a Shop-Vac and tried using it but the hose gets clogged up with some of the larger pieces. Guess my vac is not big enough for the job. It is a 10 gallon Ultra Plus so I thought it would do the trick.

I must be the only person who has a chopper in the middle of the floor. LOL
So the rear is accessable built shallow box & use that to catch the chips.

At one time I had it against a wall. I built a shut out of tin. Kinda like a spiral sliding board. The chips would fall onto it then down and to the back and spiraled to the left. They would then fall into a box at the side.

At one time I lashed up a chute system with pieces of cardboard. One piece wrapped around the pedal tie rod and fed the chips onto another chute which went sideways along the wall and all the stuff dropped into a box. It didn't look very neat and worked fine for a while, but I had to attach it to the machine with loads of parcel tape. Eventually this gave way so in the end I returned to scooping out by hand. Not my favourite job.:icon21:

Robo's 'birdcage tray' rig is the elegant solution.

Yes Paulette - I have the large shop vac. Haven't clogged it up yet and it slides under the extension arm on the chopper perfectly to stay out of the way.

Large shallow box that needs to be cleaned out every couple of days. It takes all of 5 minutes to empty and clean up around it.

One advantage of the Jyden chopper is its open stand which makes cleanout a cinch, even with against-the-wall placement.
 Rick
John, your setup reminds me of the crumb tray on my toaster oven. ;)

I've always had an easy way of emptying the shavings. Before this tray I just used to say "Mike, empty the Morso"

So Mike went and knocked that thing up in his shed!

go to farm store and get a horse feed bucket..it is perfect and even has a slanted side to put under the shute....we hardly ever have any hit the floor

I put a box behind the chopper and then line it with a large garbage back. I then pull the bag up and catch it on the two bars that keep the shoot, shelf in place. Now if any of you understood that...congratulations.

We do similar to John, but extend the platform enough to stand on.
