Another awesome project from one of my favorite customers who loves to challenge me.

This is her Father's glove and mask. I think she said 1940's.

Of course she gave me free reign..... love that!

I started out my doing a faux finished painted mat.....then attaching the ball with tulle that I used dirt on to make dirty like the ball. After that I attached the mask with suede cording that matched the leather. Followed by sewing down the mitt.

THEN I decided the mat was too CLEAN.......... and decided to make it look like my kids' equipment....... well used and dirty as heck......... YEP I glued down dirt and rocks and sprayed them with a clear poly after covering the mitt, mask and ball...

Oh I should state I also had to add a 2 1/2 extender to the back..... made out of maple .. spray painted chocolate... with flecks of gold..... looks awesome with the LJ VErona frame... I used the same flecky spray paint for the sides in the shadowbox......
OF COURSE THIS WAS A RUSH ORDER TOO! :p

WAY too much fun.... I hope she loves it....... She should be picking it up any minute!! :D :D

Turned out cool.

I just hope that the dirt didn't contain any friends. I always suggest baking dirt before using it to kill of anything that might be in it.

I dont know about the bug thing....... it was in the super hot sun........not an anthill.........

I'm vaccuuming dirt!!! LOL

She just picked up!!!!!

She loved it.......... Hugged me and told me she loved me with tears in her eyes! ;)

Very creative and a testimony about your artistic design.
There are many ways that you can go on a job like that and when you can trust your instincts and get a positive result it can be very satisfying for you and the customer.
That's the real payoff.

Ok, maybe we are related. This reminds me of one I did for a large seashell...we added lots of sand. This is great!

Thanks!!!

I do believe this is how I get the crazy pieces!!!!
I love being challenged and given free design choice. It's a lot easier and ususally a better design... but still scary!

That's crazy cool, Nicole. I can see why your customer loved it.

Nice Job - can you give more details about how you assembled the extender? Did you use mat on the insides? You said maple - was it a pre-made extender, frame, or board?

Just regular old maple moulding I got from menards........

I spray painted it with some super cool glittery brown spray paint..... drilled holes in the back of the original frame.....then the maple... used dowel rods to attach.... glued and clamped until dried....
Screwed the joins together countersunk the head..... wood putty and paint.

The inside I lined with black foam core and painted and glued dirt to it. Made sure it was 3/8 smaller so the package would fit perfect. It. Was easy even though it took me all day!
