The Mountain and Plains chapter is planning on holding a "casual open competition", tentatively for April 15, but subject to change.

Anyone can bring in any framed piece, and the winner will be based on people's choice. No need to be conserved about preservation standards - design is all that counts.

I believe non-PPFA framers are also eligible to participate, but I believe there will be a nominal charge for them to cover food, etc., but i'm not sure about that. Also I'm not sure what the limit is on how many each can enter, but I'll try to get more details.

The one condition is that everyone that brings a piece will need to talk about what they did and why.

Hope to see you there.

"Thinking outside the box" replaced by a "Creative Workshop"

The fun casual competition has the official title of "Thinking Outside the Box" and will be put off a few more months to give people more time to plan their pieces.

We are still meeting on April 15, but the topic will be a "Creative Workshop".

This will be a workshop where you can bring creative ideas you have and share with other framers or get help with projects you would like to create, but aren't sure how it's done. The chapter will provide some supplies, such as mat board, foam board, paints, brushes, gold leaf (the fake stuff), and finish products. If you have a product that you like to use, bring it and demonstrate it to the group.

Some of the creative projects that have been proposed:

Calligraphy
Painted bevels
Fabric wrapping
Mat and frame enhancements

Price is $15.00 in advance, and $20.00 at the door.

Lunch will be served, so RSVP by sending your check to: Mountain & States PPFA Chapter, 10346 Mica Way, Parker, CO 80134 by April 11th.

I guess I'm going to have to talk about gesso mats or hand wrapped bevels. I better get busy. See you there.
