We switch often between the blue 10mm blue cartridge and the 7mm pink cartridge, depending on the hardness or size of the molding being joined. This has worked perfectly for years.

Yesterday the pink cartridge stopped working (wedge won’t insert), but the blue 10mm cartridge works fine. We’ve tried multiple pink cartridges but they just won’t work. We put the blue back in and it works just fine.

There is one variable we adjusted yesterday that we never adjust. We are joining a small and soft molding (MDF wrap), and the 10mm was “slamming” in and sounded too aggressive, so we dialed back the air pressure. It was set to 9 bar (high, but functional and never an issue in the past). We dialed down to 8 then 6 bar (manufacturer recommended setting) and that is when the pink wedges stopped inserting. But blue still works at 6 bar.

Now the pink 7mm won’t work at all, even if we dial the pressure back up to 9 bar.

Thoughts??

Cranked the air pressure up to 10 bar and after pumping the pedal a few times the pink cartridge started working. We will slowly adjust the pressure down to find the sweet spot. But all good for now.

What you describe could be a result of friction in the moving parts of the cylinders. Do you routinely lubricate the compressed air coming into your machine? It is recommended to install an air filter/lubricator on the machine, or at least squirt a few drops of pneumatic tool oil (not compressor oil) into the air input port of the machine every week or so.

Take good care of your underpinner. You may have difficulty buying parts in the future, because Cassese went out of business last June.

Hi, I’m following this. I’ve got a CS89 and had trouble with the 10mm Uni wedge magazine. Somehow the magazine itself seems very stiff moving the pins forward but not sure if that is the issue. The 7mm magazine works great.
So where do you mean to add the oil? I can’t picture it? I’m new to framing

Hi, might be a dumb question but how do I get the oil in there? Just squirt some up the way as the connection points downward. 🙈
Do you have a picture of what such an airfilter/lubricator looks like and where I can get one from? I have a CS89
