Can anyody tell me where is a good place to look for a case for a basketball. A gentleman brought in 2 today. One is signed by Larry Bird and the other by some other tall person I am not familiar with. I know I can use those Boxer frames, but I know I've seen the cases. Thanks for any info.

He wasn't a tall man with glasses, was he? I had a basketball and other memorbilia come in this morning also! I made some suggestions for other "stuff" to be added to the shadow box and he is going to return with more.

My only thought, until I see ALL of the "stuff" he has, is to use a "Boxers" frame by Framamerica. I have used these on 2 other jobs and they can be made very deep although I am not too sure if "basketball deep" will pose any lighting problems inside the finished box.

Hope you get many suggestions on this. I will be watching closely for tips that I can use too.

Sounds like a job for . . . A Plexi Box!

You may have a good fabricator in your area. If so, it's worthwhile to seek them out and make friends with them.

We're lucky enough to get free deliveries for Showcase Acrylics in Illinois. They'll certainly ship.

It sounds like Lois at Superior knows a thing or two about Plexi boxes. If we had a search function I could find her info, but maybe she'll read this and speak up.

When shadowboxes get to be more than a few inches deep, they start earning the name - everything is in shadows. For something like a basketball, I'd go acrylic.

Kathy, check the thread on baseball bat. I don't know if I can put a link on here, but Superior Picture Frame Products has a box specifically for basketballs.

How do you make it a link?

That's the one I was trying to remember!
<U>Here it is!</U>

Cookie, if I told you how to do that, then <U>all</U> the kids would be wanting to make links (at least Katie would) and pretty soon The Grumble would have more links than a Sheboygan meat market!

I'm sorry. I'm starting to sound like Framerguy. </font>
  • Go to the page you want to link to </font>
  • Highlight the web address at the top of your browser (usually it only takes a single click) </font>
  • Press ctrl-C to copy the address into your clipboard </font>
  • Start your new post </font>
  • Press the URL button under Instant UBB Code </font>
  • In the window that appears, press ctrl-V to paste the address you just copied - press okay </font>
  • In the next window that appears, type a description for the page you're linking to - this can be anything, like "Look here, stupid!" - press okay again </font>
That's it! Just don't try putting a Marquee in the URL description. That would be excessive. And it doesn't work.

I saw one of these cases in Michigan last week and they are great! They advertised in the March 2002 issue of PFM on page 22.

I'm a real serious sports memorabilia collector and I buy all my personal cases from Stacks of Plaques. Basketball cases with acrlic tops and walnut bases cost $34 and they are very nice. 1-800-225-7069. The stuff is first rate.

But if you need a custom application, Lois at Superior has always been very accomodating; both quality and service

Thanks for all the info everybody. I'm going to definitely go with acrylic. I like the boxer frames but you can only make them so deep. I did one for a wedding bouquet once. the bouquet was not pretty at all, it even had some silk and plastic flowers. I had to add on seven of the 2 inch layers to accomodate this thing. It was hideous, very poorly designed. This thing was so big, she even wanted to do the complete holder. I did this one when I worked at Michael's, it was very late getting done so the customer raised a stink and got it for free to boot, my only consolation from the whole thing was knowing how ugly it was and also knowing it would for sure be the first thing thrown in an argument. Good times, good times.

I have called some of the places suggested. The guy left the balls with me so I know he is serious. Hope he doesn't mind if I use them for a pick up game in the interim!

Hello,

I saw it and I'm here to tell you, go acrylic and hopefully you'll like OURS. Take a trip to our website and click on Photo Gallery and you'll see just a couple of the things we do in acrylic. We are building the gallery and would like pictures from our customers to add to that collection especially that one of the coins we did for Tiger Lily
