Salutations all you framers of infinite wisdom and portals of knowledge

We have in our shop some deteriorating but genuine Hanna & Barbara cartoon cells of Tom & Jerry (a rarity in a New Zealand framing shop!!!)
My problem is, they are in need of restoration - we use two very good restorers for our paper and canvas works, but of course these are a different kettle of fish, I guess they are a form of acetate?

And also, is there a specific tecnique to frame them or is it standard museum framing?

OR do I leave them well enough alone???!!

Any advice gratefully appreciated...

Cells can be restored, but it must be done by someone who has extensive knowledge of the chemical and physical problems that these items present. Thier polymer substrate is not stable and their paints are likely to contain materials that are needed to make them stick to the slick plastic and those same materials may allow the paint to become tacky, in the future. Cells are trick to frame and need space behind them and should only be restored by professionals.

Thanks - I thought as much, probably why our usual restorer has not returned our request!!

maybe we will recommend to get the cardboard overmounts restored (they are handsigned), and research further...
