How long have there been canvas transfers? How have the methods of transfer changed? Have they always been done with acrylics?
I've gotten in an old one and was wondering how to date it. Thanks.
 
We were playing around with it in the late 60's and early 70's in art classes. We would transfer magazine images to our canvases a la Rauschenberg. As for the commercial product you might check with the companies that offer transfers to see how long they have been offered.
