A customer brought in a carte de visite with a photograph of a young man in uniform. On the back of the card is printed:

Hönefos

Ploden opbavares

She wants to know what it says and (being naturally curious) so do I.

Even being able to identify the language would be helpful. My first thought was that it looks Eastern European but it's not Polish.

Any ideas?

Okayokayokay. So this probably shouldn't be in the 'Tips' forum but I wanted to give Lance something to do.

Ahhh - Danish. I didn't try that. Thanks, Hanna.

I did try typing the second phrase into a Norwegian translation dictionary but got no repsonse.

And thank you, too, Denis. If the message had been hand written I would have no trouble believing your story. But since it's printed on the card, I'm just a tiny bit doubtful.

Guess what the Danish word for 'station' is.

It's (are you ready?)... station.

I want to thank everyone for their help.

And I'm having a lovely time playing with on-line dictionaries.

I think he's out somewhere doing some obedience training on a new batch of killer goldfish.
