I am helping a framer friend with his instore display of matted prints, local scenes, framed prints, Chinese birth signs etc etc.

If you have a display suggestion, or something worth copying, please can you post a picture? Or post a link to your website, if there is a good picture there.

I should mention my friend is in a third world country, and trying to be the best framer in the capital. Most of his customers are expatriates, westerners and/or tourists. Local carpenters are plentiful and skilled - so anything made of wood is preferable to something bought from a shop fitting co.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you wonderful Grumblers:smiley:

Just dragging this back up to the top, in the hope that being a Sunday a few Grumblers may have time to post a few pics, or add some words of wisdom.

Thanks

:help:Dragged back up to the top again!
This is supposed to be a forum where framers help each other.
But reading 35 posts today on 2 other threads it seems everyone is more interested in grumbling about the loss of Warped.

Is there anyone out there who can spare a few mins and give me their advice/opinion? PLEASE:help:

Thank you to anyone who replies

Keith, I think most people are thrown off by the third-world aspect and we don't know what is available to your friend. It sounds like he wants to build something by hand. Our most useful and versatile retail display walls are made of slot-wall and the plethora of hardware made to be used with them. No idea if that's available to your friend, and if he made his own he still doesn't have the hardware. Other displays are drywall with gallery hanging systems installed on them... again doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Also, because it's a national holiday weekend (including Monday) many of us are not near our shops for several days to be able to take photos.

Johnny,
Many thanks for your comments - OK if I say developing country - does that sound better ?? :D
He has built shelves out of Dexion (angle iron) and it looks "cheap"
I think it lowers the perceived "value" of whats displayed
If any one can post some pics - then it will give him some ideas/styles to copy.
Thanks

If you go to the members list, search by amount of posts, (descending), and click on peoples' profiles, you'll find albums of shops like this and websites too.

(Edit) I don't know if you'll actually see that link, the album is 'private' - Maybe I can only see it as the Grumbler is on my friends list.

Go make some friends:)

I've just sent you a friendship request so you can see what I'm on about.

Keith,

I will be taking some photos of my store tomorrow and will post them in the album section of my profile in the next day or two, I will let you know when they are up. It will probably not be anything like a third world country store would do but if it can help....

Sometimes you don't get an answer because no one has anything to say on the subject. (in my case, I didn't think seeing my fixtures would be of much help)

This is also a holiday weekend here in the U.S.

And we do have some framers on the forum from around the globe who might be able to chime in and help (Khoo for one) but there is a time difference, so be patient my friend.

Keith -
Maybe you and the shop owner can get some ideas for his local carpenters by searching for art display systems on Google and browsing thru the pages of information that are returned. I realize you said that you didn't want something from a shop fitting company but you might come across some ideas that could be constructed locally with local materials.

Just a thought.
