wonder if this is the printer I saw on their infomercial???

This technology has gotten quite good lately.

I'm sure this would do a great job for family pictures and general snap shooting. The quality level of this package is probably better at 4x6 than was ever possible with one-hour photos. A technically good 8mp photograph can make a photo-quality print up to about 8x10, and for many subjects up to more like 11x14 or 16x20.

One important consideration is whether the printer inks are based on dyes or pigment inks. Dye based prints fade badly in a few years, pigment ink prints are expected to last for decades and so far seem up to the promise. For those family shots you want pigment.
