I just found out that D&K, the manufacturers of Bienfang products, have discontinued BufferMount. They are recommending RagMount as a replacement. Does anyone have experience with this product? How does it compare? Are there other comparable products from other manufacturers that you have had good luck with? It's time to make a switch.

Hey James- what was the final outcome of the print that yellowed?

Rob,

Everything cleared up perfectly with UV exposure. We ended up replacing the print and having it cold-mounted anyway because they needed it sooner. We kept the original and put it in a large window for a few days. The sun seems to have bleached out the yellow and it still looks good as new.

I'd still like to know what others feel is a good replacement for BufferMount. We've been using it as an all-around tissue because it's acid-free and nominally reversible. What does everyone else use. What are the BufferMount users of the world going to switch to? Maybe there aren't that many people using it and that's why they discontinued it.

Ragmount works better than buffer mount. I quit using it as well in favor of cold mounting. I dont used heat to mount anything anymore. Cold mounting is more reliable and there are less problems to deal with.

We've used BufferMount since we opened in Dec. 2009. Just ordered (and received) two 150' rolls of it, so we'll be OK for quite a while.

Rod,

Where did you get yours from? I'd love to get another roll to at least hold us over until we move into our new space with the new cold-mount roller press. Our usual suppliers (United, Gemini) are both out of BufferMount.

If we can't get BufferMount, I'll try RagMount. I was supposed to get a sample of it from United, but they seem to have neglected to send it to me. Oh well. Thanks for the replies,

James

My go-to drymount tissue has been Fusion 4000.

Fusion 4000 is not a tissue. It is 100% adhesive and has very different properties, especially the way it handles and liquefies.

We ordered it from CMI in Dallas.

Thanks Rod!

I just ordered their last 4 rolls of the 90'. Would have preferred the 300', but that's life. That should hold us over until the move, then we'll be able to use the roller press for most of our mounting.

You guys are the best,
James
