Do any of you UK Grumblers know where one may
find a Karat gilt moulding that is 1"-1 1/4"
wide and which begins at the glass edge with
a small cove that rises to a bead line, followed
by a scoop, which is capped by a strong line
of gadrooning. The back is hollow and it is often
seen on British watercolors, but no US maker
seems to have such a beast.

You could have a look at www.arqadia.co.uk though I think most of their mouldings are imported into the UK, Arqadia are one of the bigger moulding suppliers in the UK, I’m not sure if they would be very disposed to shipping to the US……should they have what you want and you have any difficulty getting it let me know and I will ask their distributor in Ireland to help.

Many UK distributors and manufacturers do not have sophisticated or detailed websites, so you may have to drop some emails to them to uncover this moulding.

One of the larger players, exhbiting each year at the Spring Fair in Birmingham is D.J. Simons & Sons Ltd.......this would perhaps be a good place to start.

If this is an actual British moulding then its probably made by some totally obscure outfit.Most of the Britsih suppliers import from Italy(cheap)and Spain(cheap but better finishes that Italy)

Byron mouldings stock some really nice gold leaf mouldings for watercolours.Pricey items but well worth it for the right thing.

All the other suppliers tend to have pretty similar lines with the odd exception.Arqadia and Simons cater for the cheaper end of the marketplace with a few exceptions.

Ashworth and Thompson manufacture their own range of British mouldings too but they are not the kind of quality you require I am sure.
