I AM LOOKING FOR ANY SUPPLIERS OF DECORATIVE BRASS MATS. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A SOURCE FOR THESE THINGS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU DO. APPRECIATE THE HELP. LEAH

Leah,

I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO FIND BRASS MATS, BUT I DO KNOW WHERE MY caps lock key is.

I'm sorry. I couldn't resist. Welcome to The Grumble, Leah. You'll like it here. Most of these folks are a lot nicer than I am, though some of us are getting a little punchy right now. And if anyone knows where to find those brass mats, it'll be one of these folks.

I'm trying to work up an answer to a customer that also wants brass mats. I know Larson Juhl used to have a line of metal mat accents but I don't see it in the catalog anymore - I'll check my sales rep. I looked at www.punchedtin.com which gave some ideas and I've asked my sheet metal guy for ideas. I won't get to this one until at least January and will post any success I have - maybe you'll beat me to the answer.

Perhaps you mean Gold leaf mats that are antique toned? Or Perhaps you mean mats painted with gold paint in antique brass tones?

At last check La Marche had them . . .

The line of metal mat accents I was thinking of wasn't from Larson Juhl - it was from Cresent and called "Essential Accents". They were designed by Carolyn Kinder. A very elegant antiqued metal applique to use on top of the mat. I actually have a video of ways to use this product although it was one of those things I never actually got around to. I have emailed Cresent to ask if this product is still available - when I get an answer I will let you know.

Actually, the Kinder boards came in sheets and are truly cool things. I did a crane from NYGraphics using the boards cut into huge squares. Neat. We haven't used them for awhile, but I thought they were still around. I'll check our local sources just for my own info.

They came in gold and in silver, about eight patterns including zebra stuff.

The Cresent "Essential Accents" weren't boards - they were embossed, antique finished metal appliques that were miter cut and placed on top of the mat board.

Okay: perhaps we're at cross verbiage. Kinder had "mat" boards of approximate matboard size. Not sure exactly what they were called, but they were to be used as boards rather than accents. And if noone knows what they are, they probably aren't around anymore.

But I have a couple left if anyone's desperate.

Received a reply from Jim Malinowski at Cresent that the "Essential Accents" product is still available from their Wheeling warehouse. The promotional video I have on this product features Carolyn Kinder, Brian Wolfe, and Robin Millsap. These are actual metal strips in various widths, patterns and colors that are applied at the edges or on top of mats. They are high end products. Email Jim at Cresent if you are interested.
