Does anyone have any thoughts on brass vs. the ones most suppliers use? I had a client say someone told her they were better for the art(preservation wise, is this true? and Where do you get them?

I can't imagine any kind of preservation issue with a strap hanger

It's so far away from the art there is nothing to be concerned about.

Sometimes people get a little carried away with "preservation". Your post could be the start of a discussion of the craziest preservation claims they've heard.

Aspen, please don't take offense...the "craziest" wasn't directed at you!

Next thing they will be getting concerned with the composition of the wall the picture is hanging on.

I always recommend to my customers that they first paint their walls with acid free paint before hanging any of my framing.

(Ya just can't be too careful nowadays!!)

Wheile I was at college teh school repainted one of the galleries... the next show that was hung in there had issues. Some of the black and white prints (fiberbase paper, printed in the darkrooms at the school) started yellowing within a couple days. They stripped the walls, repainted with differnt paint and rehung the show with no further problems...

I happen to be one who likes the look of brass strap hangers. I use these on 75% of what we frame. I can't see how they would be have any relevance conservation-wise, though.
I think they are Floreat brand (just like my favorite wall hooks) and I get them through Ziabicki.

I like the little brass infinity hangers. We use them on most small to medium jobs that get wires. Unfortunately they have been discontinued and are getting really hard to find. Hope someone picks up manufacturing them again. (maybe FrameTek or Albin?)
Actually I really liked the black infinities, but they are really gone.

I think it was the remodel of 1997 that the Louvre took up a study of just that issue.

I know the Rijks is just finishing a total wall reconstruction on the "A" side.
