I have just bought a new Cassese mitre guillotine. And am having the very bottom end of the cut chipping - as if the blades have dragged the last 4mm's instead of cutting. What on earth am I doing wrong. Besides that I'm getting perfect joins and would be very happy with my new machine

Work with some different back profiles on your moulding…..some profiles (the ones with the small round at the back) just don’t work very well with guillotines/choppers…I have found out over the years, it is a bit of trial and error……you could try using a small bit of old moulding behind what you need to chop for support…this is very slow…..but can get you out of a hole……or tape a bit of masking tape where you need to cut….take the masking tape off quickly as it can damage the finish on the moulding.

Is this with a soft timber moulding by chance?

If so take smaller steps (make more cuts) as the soft timber is possibly clogging between the knives at the tip. Alternately they could be dull already and in need of sharpening.
