My husband wanted the bat framed. I suggested we frame the newspaper pages along with the bat, and add a plaque. I brought it to the owner of one of my old shops, told her what I wanted, and she did it.

The shadow box is stacked Picture Woods in cherry, UV glass, suede wrapped mat and suede spacer (Rapaels fabric), red reveal. The box opens so the bat can be taken out. She had to hunt around for the supports. The cost of the shadowbox was $1500. We waited five months for it to be completed, and we were told she never wants to do another!

That really looks great. But will you be able to match it with a second one 90 yr. from now?
Where and how does it open?

That looks fantastic.

It does bring back memories of the after dinner discussion. I'll bet you were at the stable when he was getting the bat signed right?

Looks great, but $1500 sounds steep to me.

Jay, you're not too far off. I probably was at the stable when the games were played.

The frame is hinged at the top.

Dave, It is a little pricey. This was done at one of my old shops. I was know as "expensive, but good". I was actually more put off by the time it took, rather than the price.

Take into account this large (30 x 40) piece used about was about of Picture Woods cherry moulding, at probably $15-20', plus it was labor intesive ($60-65 per hour, maybe 5 hours?). Hand wrapped mat, fabric covered wood spacer, UV glass-adds up.

Dave:
It's Picture Woods.
Cherry.
Stacked.
I'd have charged at least that. (And the rate I've been going lately, it would have taken me even longer to do it!)

Pamela,
I like the bat supports.
Your former shop did a nice job stacking the mouldings.
What, no museum glass...? Just kidding.
I LOVE the wrapped spacers.

Pamela, it IS an outstanding job. And it will never have to be redone... "in our lifetime".

Good choice going with fabric. very colorfast.
