Let me start by saying that this christmas and last quarter of the year has been a true blessing to my business. I'm a one man show and for the past week and a half leading up to christmas I haven't left the shop before 10:30 p.m. Monday I went in to work at 8:00 a.m. and left the shop the following day at 4:30 a.m. Now with 2 hours of sleep under my belt I'm back. I'm really looking forward to a week off. I think my family has forgotten what I look like. I still say we have the best jobs in the world. Now I'm off to hibernate.

Merry Christmas,

Michael.....zzzz....zzz...zz...z........

I used to be like that.

Then I got a Wizard.

WOW!!!! The wizard cuts and joins frames at wholesale prices, and waites on customers that can't make up their minds, and lines shadowboxes, and stitches (ez attaches) dozens of items in 10 different shadowboxes???? I bet only 10% of my time is allocated to just cutting a mat. I don't need another car payment item just yet.

JK I know what you mean.

I found mat cutting to be the activity from ####. I can take anything else, including last-minute, undeciding customers, chopping and joining twisted molding, you name it, but me and mat cutting are a bad fit. Boring, repetitive ####.

Just be sure to keep as healthy as you can. It's easy to get your electrolytes out of whack or become dehydrated when you're running pedal to the medal. I once spent the Christmas holidays sicker than a dog because of too many laaate nights spent at the shop. Wore myself out, and it wasn't much fun recovering. I shall now end this post before a third cliche metaphor springs to mind.

But not before saying, Yay! I'm glad your business is going well. :)

Thanks, and I hope everyone has merry Christmas. Time to spend quality time with the family. I wonder at what point they'll have too much of me and send me back to the shop?

Merry Christmas

Michael

We have done LOTS of last minute jobs this year. They haven't been HUGE jobs, but $150 here and $200 there means that we are coming close to meeting our lowered expectations.

And thank goodness for our Wizard! We probably cut 15 or 20 mats only jobs for the customer to fit into our readymade frames. That, my friend, is darn near Free Money when it takes 5-10 minutes to turn around a double mat. The customer is overjoyed and another $30 in the register.

Six more to do today and then SLAM! the doors at 4pm and switch to Real Christmas, as opposed to Retail Christmas... two entirely different mind sets.

same here...lots of mats for last minute ready made frame jobs, and lots of custom framing too as we offer 1 day service and stock about 600 mats and 20,000 ft of assorted moldings... today we close a little early (5 instead of 6), and i have about 10 jobs ready for pickup and 3 more to finish...then we start enjoying Christmas with family and friends...Merry Christmas to all the Grumblers out there..and a prosperous New Year too.

Been wanting to say this............ My hats off to you!!!!! To you single wo/man

May your Christmas morning be peaceful and for us all a prosperous New Year.

And Hats Off and a Merry Christmas to whoever runs the Grumble: best thing to happen to one wo/man shops.
